Whites Prizm 5G? whats this about?

Old Katz

New member
When did the 5G come out or is it really the same detector as the Prizm 5?
If not how is it different?
Katz

Thats it? Thats all there is too it?

BTW whats the difference between Auto GB and Manual. Does Auto GB imply
factory preset? I'm confused.

Katz

Auto Ground balance automatically samples the soil and adjusts the detector to suit the mineralization. Manual ground balance means you have a Knob (potentiometer) to adjust the ground balance until you get a happy medium.

The Panther

Preset is an average set internally by the factory that does not change with location unless the detector is opened up and tweaked. For many areas this works well, but if the preset and the ground are too far apart depth and performance can suffer considerably.

Thank you. I understand now.
So the 5G is really the Prizm 5 with manual GB.

I like the Idea of auto GB but I wonder why they just don't go all the way and make it
so the machine samples and finds the "happy medium" without the owner having to fiddle around and finding it?
I suppose that would make the machine even moe expensive.

Instead of the 9.5 coil it comes with the 12 inch coil. Not the best way to start in metal
detecting in my opinion. Who ever buys it will have a heck of a time metal detecting in
areas with heavy trash. They will wish hard for a smaller coil.

The Prizm 5G does not come with the 12" coil - Where did you get that? White's doesn't make a 12" coil for the Prizm line. It comes with a 9" in spider coil.

I must be going nuts. That wasn't supposed to be posted here. It was intended for another
thread. I had written it on MicroSoft Word, then pasted it........to the wrong bleepin thread.
Your quite right. Prizms have no 12 inch coil. Can't believe I did that!

I didn't see that mentioned in this thread, but it figures I'd be frustrated again ... :rage:

As I stated in a post below to Dan-O with regard to the use of the term "Pro" .... In MY opinion, it has to be one of the most often used, most over-used, and most misapplied terms when it comes to a hobby-based product. I'd rather see something like M-9 or MXT Elite or MXT-E (for enhanced) or ????

Oh well, some things never change when it comes to marketing because some approaches (and terms) just get overworked and have actually become less productive for their purpose.

Just venting my opinions. :)
