White's Surfmaster PI

I am trying to get a feel for how well my home made PI is working. I know how it does against a surfmaster PI but I am not sure which end of the scale the surfmaster fits into. Is it considered to be a high end, medium end or lower end detector as far as it's performance goes? What are it's strong and weak points? Thanks for any input, Dave. * * *
