Whites TDI and Nuggetfinder coils

Wirechief

New member
I was looking at the coil connector on the Whites coil and the Nugget Finder 12" E Mono coil, they are both the same 5 pin screw on type. I wonder if the NF coil will work on the TDI? Or maybe be able to rewire the NF at the very least. Thank you all.

The unit was designed to operate with most coils designed for the Minelab, and the Goldscan. They should be OK.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the info and that is interesting to say the least. I hope all is going your way Bill. I will call you sometime. Be safe.

Some of the NuggetFinder coils are wound out of phase from the standard winding way. I don't think these will work on the TDI.

But I would consider them in the minority, maybe.

The last I was aware, all the coils from them of later manufacture were wound out of phase. Now this isn't cast in stone. I'm not in the circle of things.

Hi Mike and all,

The Nuggetfinder coils that are wound out of phase, or have a phase reversal switch, are DD coils where the TX and RX windings are separate. The "out of phase" refers the the RX winding, or its connections via a switch, being reversed relative to the TX. This inverts the RX signal, which if wrong will cause the TDI to give all sorts of strange responses. This situation does not occur with any mono coils. Even if the winding direction is reversed, the coil still functions normally. All that may be necessary is that a small adjustment is needed on the pulse delay, as not every manufacturer's mono coil is tested to work at 10uS. There is no advantage in using DD coils on the TDI as it is designed so that monos operate happily in the worst ground

Eric.

Hi Eric, boy longtime since I chatted to you. Yes I got to looking at the new Nugget Finder 12" E monocoil and found it to have the same connector as the TDI 12" stock coil. I remembered you had setup your machines to work with some Minelab coils and I thought no this can't possibly work! I have the NF on the TDI now and it does sense targets and the ground. But this is just trying it for a few minutes Eric. I haven't had time to go further because I need to find some washers to stabilize the coil on the Whites shaft. Mary at Whites is very curious about it too.How have you been Eric? I'm doing fine here. I have been on an unexpexted vacation since there was an accident at work involving a source. Ok Eric thank you for the input and I will be going further with the NF trial. Be safe.

It seems that the new 12" E monocoil from Nugget Finder is working on the TDI. Pretty cool!!! I need to find a good place to hunt where there are some targets. But thank you Eric for making the TDI design to accept coils that operate on the Minelab PI machines. Ok Merry Christmas Eric and to all the group here. Be safe.
