I do not think there is a single solitary metal detector made in the United States comprised entirely of US made parts.

If you ever have a chance, even if you have to go out of your way, take a tour of their facility (Whites or any manufacturer of metal detectors). I did that 2 years ago, went to Sweet Home, and I would love to do it again. To see what goes into the manufacture of one of their detectors is facinating...they have PCB assembly machines, PCB testing machines, sheet metal stamping, paint rooms.. technicians everywhere, assembling, testing, soldering, and using every kind of electronic test equipment imaginable. They even have kept some of their old manufacturing equipment, as well as every detector theyve made out in the lobby...it is really impressive. I left the place more of a Whites fan than when I got there. (I might say the same thing if I had visited a Tesoro, or Garrett, or Fisher plant)...I would highly recommend it.

White's, however, is a great place to visit and learn because so much of everything is done 'in house.'

Well i drive a ford pickup and on my tailgate i have in big letters support china shop at walmart. I belive it is a strong country and we need to pull to get our jobs back. But im a little guy.

Walmart used to boast about all the made in the USA goods they have. Then they went on to say that they buy American goods when possible. Now it would be hard to find anything in Walmart that's made in the USA besides maybe a candy bar? As far as metal detectors in general - I do not want to be seen with ANY machine that is sold to the public through companies like Cabella's, Bass Pro, Walmart etc. I know Whites used to sell machines through Sears - I hated that! I'm glad to see they no longer do. Maybe that's just me?

To my knowledge White's, Garrett, Tesoro, and Fisher/Tek/BH are "Made in the USA". So what does that mean?

At White's, we (the factory) do all the metal work including bending, punching, cutting, welding, powder coating, and silkscreening; we build all the PCBs (we have 2 pick-n-place lines, and I'm advocating expanding them again); we build loops, including winding coils, potting, tuning, etc; we do all the assembly work; we do all the vacuum-formed plastics. We don't do injection-molded plastic in-house, but it is all done locally. We don't have a print shop, but it is all done locally. We don't make the cartons, but they are done locally. Components are where we can get them from; displays, chips, connectors, pots, etc are often from foreign sources, simply because they are no longer made in the USA or unaffordable. There is little we can do about that.

I've visited the Tesoro and Garrett factories and they seem to have very similar setups.

*A while back our Made-in-USA stainless pots used on the SMPI went from under $20 to over $40 each. At that point I was forced to source them from China.

Or the whole detector for that matter.. Just give me good 'ol USA made products, because for the most part, they are the best quality made out there. Chinese made junk is infererior, just because our so called leaders sold us out to the Chinese, don't mean we can't have a choice to purchase a better quality American made product. Look at Wal-Mart products, a person has to realy look around for an American made product, I would Boycott Wal-Mart if I could, I live in a small town, pretty far from a city and not feasible. I'm a gun enthusiast and I have noticed a general trend in guns being produced in America are now outsourced. One such old company is Remington, give me an older made Remington any day! Guns that are old school, hand made and quality showing the pride of their craft are now just a fading thing of the past.

Same thing with metal detectors, I prefer older analog White's and Tesoro, because these new digital detectors just don't cut it for me, I would rather use knobs and switches that go crazy going thru a computer driven menue. Call me old school. If I could live my life without a computer, I would take it outside and blow it up with my Ruger 44 Mag. But I kinda like the internet forums and posting my views on some things, so I will keep it around.

I went into our Hallmark store and couldn't find much of anything made in the USA. This is a Kansas City based company. The US detector manufacturer's are doing a great job in keeping with "Made in the USA"

Well it's final...I'm switching to Whites. I wish I still had my old Spectrum XLT. I loved that detector. Keep up the good work Whites! I use Fisher classic detectors but I refuse to pay for the new models...they just look really cheap and as curious as I am I just can't do it... Besides I don't think there is anything they will give me that my older ones can't. Right now I am finding myself hoarding older models off ebay because I know the good old ones won't be around forever. God whats happening to my country..and why am I here in Afghanistan fighting for what feels like a lost cause...I hope America comes back...but I fear what I'm seeing.

God Bless
