Who uses a Tesoro Tiger Shark??

Hey guys just wondering how many of you use the Tiger Shark? I got one today and I think it is a very nice unit and built very well. I got the one with the 10-1/2" Concentric coil. Anyways just wondering everyones opinion. There is only fresh water detecting here in Middle TN and I did not see a need for a more expensive beach/saltwater unit and the budget seems pretty good. I just used it in freshwater for my first time and it was awsome! I hunted in both all metal fast with background threshold and in disc mode with the disc set real low at about 3. It sounds off sweet on targets. Loves bottlecaps, but so do most detectors. The coil is nice and thin and slices through the water with ease. Ground balancing was simple and it was the first time I ever had to do it. For the price I don't know what more you could ask for. I found a ring, several clad coins and a bunch of bottle caps the first time. I wouldn't trade this detector for anything. My thinking was if you are going to buy a detector for underwater detecting get one with a lifetime warranty. That left the Tiger Shark. When I researched it I never found anyone that had anything negative to say about it. Now I see why. I also want to hip mount this and try it on land. I see Tesoro makes a hip mount pouch that works for this and the Lobo. You will not be disappointed with this detector. I also have the 10.5 inch coil. Make sure you get a good sand scoop! Check out the T-Rex, it is light weight, stainless, and strong.

I just received my new tiger shark today as well. I am new to water detecting and after researching different water detectors the tiger shark with a lifetime warranty and the price was the way to go.

I agree with everything Rainyday said. The Tiger Shark is great in fresh water and will find thin gold chains and hollow earrings that the salt water machines won't. I don't like how it hits hard on bottle caps though. There is a fresh water site that I hunt every summer that is loaded with bottle caps and I still use my Excalibur there. I know I might miss a gold chain but it's just too time consuming digging all the caps with the Tiger Shark. If you have a clean fresh water swimming area then it's hard to beat the Tiger Shark. Just be sure to overlap your swings to get good coverage.

The Tiger Shark will work in salt water but the sensitivity has to be turned down. It would probably be okay if you only hunt salt water ocasionally. I'd say that in salt water you will not get half the depth of an Excalibur or a CZ-21.

Great info and thanks for the input. I would only occasionally or if ever get to look on a salt water beach. I live in middle TN and the salt water beach combing would only be on a vacation. I am however looking forward to some creek hunting. I just purchased a property that has a very nice creek running very near that the water is very clear and looks like it would be a refreshing and tempting area to try out the new Tesoro. In the world of digging bottle caps, I still dig them while searching on land for coins and other items. I know some machines have a lot better ability to distinguish a bottle cap from something of value more so than others. I have been on the search for gold here lately while out coinshooting and have not encountered anything but bottle caps and nice lot of pull tabs!! I guess it is something that comes with the territority while detecting and after digging up about 75% more targets than usual, I am hopefully going to encounter the elusive gold ring or other piece of gold, I quickly realize why I mainly coinshoot and relic hunt!! . Yep, on land trash comes with gold. That is why most of the time I just cherry pick for silver and disc. out trash. Nothing worse than digging some place all to hell for pulltabs. For gold, hit the water. With a sandscoop you just scoop for every signal and it is a lot easier than digging. (provided you have a good scoop!)

My name is Andre and I live in The Netherlands. I'm waterdetecting here for more then 25 years.

Used the Tiger Shark in fresh water for the last couple of moths. Normaly I'm using the Minelab Excal but I also bought me a Tiger Shark. When I went into the water for the first time it seemed to me that the coil wanted to float a little bit. When there went some sand between the coil and the coil cover it seemed to do better.

What I do not like about the Tiger Shark is that the most important swithes are on the inside of the control box. The threshold and the sensitivity. Very strange that a model that has been on the market for many many years did not get an upgrade to get these knobs on the outside. Or maybe I'm the first one who thinks this is strange.

Next thing are the headphones, Not the best quality I have ever seen. My ears really hurt after a couple of hours.

After I used this detector for the first time I changed the armrest for a White's one.

It also looks like the Tiger Shark is not going as deep as the Excal.

I also found the Tiger Shark a very nervous detector. Every time I hit the bottom it is giving a false signal. Even when I lift the coil up and down in the water it is really going berserk.
Perhaps there is something wrong with my the detector. Perhaps someone can tell me if this is normal.
