[attachment 40093 Picture001.jpg]Got the SE today.....MAN....Sure was not expecting such a NEW experience:stars:....It sure can sing....In a foreign language that is...I only spent a few minutes on test targets...That's ALL I needed...LOL...This is gonna take a couple days at Least....I can see now that I'm going to have to clear a piece of ground in the back yard & plant a GOOD test garden just to get the hang of this:surprised:It's all good though....although "different" I don't think is sufficient enough to describe what's running through my head right now, I CAN SEE that once I get a small grasp on how to use this alien weapon :starwars: that it will probably be the best unit I have ever used....I'm really impressed with the digital display, being able to SEE the ferrous & conductive is really great...I changed tones, & a few other things & am really impressed with the ability to alter everything so completely....This is GONNA TAKE TIME...Hey Arturo De Zorro...THIS IS FOR YOU DUDE!!!:clapping: Couldn't believe it got here so fast...Later my friends I've got work to do

Get that coin garden planted.
Just to let you know though, Explorers do not like freshly burried coins.

What I did to speed up the process was to put the coin in the bottom of the hole, put just some durt on top, tamp it down real good like with a baseball bat, pour a little water in, put more dirt in, tamp it down and more water and repeat until dirt is to the top. This helps take out all the air voids. You don't have to get the ground sloppy wet though.

If you use the smart screen you can see how the cursor will bounce from where the coin should be and bounce to the left of the screen on real deep coins. When you see this in the field you will know what to do. All digital mode will just bounce numbers back and forth and you may not see what is really going on like you would with the smart screen.

For the first couple of weeks you might want to detect in factory settings to get the hang of the sounds. Then expand. Take it off of auto where the cursor on the left goes round and round the number. Bump the sensitivity up till the detector becomes erratic and then back it off to the point where the cursor is stable and not jumping all around.

Good luck and congrats!
Tony

Glad to hear you got your baby. That first impression of sounds I think puts a lot of people off to it which would explain 2nd hand units 2 weeks after release. Just my suggestion turn things down and work up to where you are comfortable. That test garden is a super idea. My yard is all rock so the test garden may be out for me as I don't have a good spot for one.

Remember Quickstart is there for a reason..Also a good mentor and a video of the Explorer 11 will get you on track...sort of crawl before you walk....

Yeah..I can understand now how "NEW" units end up on the bidding block. It "SURELY" is not a turn on & go unit...I don't care what anybody says...I found the factory presets not to my likeing right off the bat...Maybe they work for some people in some places, but not me, not here...It IS NOT the most comfortable unit I have ever used by a long shot, but I knew that going in...Don't get me wrong...This is one FINE DETECTOR!!! I did a little experimenting with the response, tones, sound, recovery & switching between smartfind & digital screens...Man the options & combinations seem unlimited...I know they're not but for a new exp. user WOW...I haven't tried to hunt with it yet & probably won't for a few days, because it's gonna take at least that long to get comfortable with the controls & getting it set up to what feels best...Again don't get me wrong...It won't be sitting in the corner collecting dust...I'll be learning on a test bed on how to tweak it without the manual in my face....My first Impression??? Nice...VERY VERY...Nice... I'm impressed & have'nt been this impressed since 1990 when I ordered a whites eagle ll SL...This Exp. is lightyears past that one..

My personal feeling is it is a fairly simple but powerful machine. Once you start to learn it and study the manual you realize that once setup to suit you all you need to tweak is sensitivity to just go out and hunt. If you get used to hunting in IM cleared just listen to the tones.

You're quite right Stan...The only thing is...I'm blonde:crazy: & trying to choose things like the right tones, response, Sounds, is hard for us to figure out:rofl:
