who's had real world experience with with the whites vx3 detector... ?

I remember it was like the kid brother to the spectra v3 but without some of the bells and whistles. Thats ok by me, just wondering what the overall operation of the unit was or was the v3 the superior detector.

I just picked up a nice V3. Supposedly, it was a storage unit find. I concluded It had a bad D2 coil on it but looks new otherwise. It needed a battery pack but fired right up. I just received a V rated coil for it from Backwoods yesterday. I haven't had time to test it yet. As far as the VX3, I enjoyed it but ended up selling it in favor of the Deus 2 when it came out. However, I enjoyed it enough to take a chance on this V3.

I may or may not keep it. I certainly didn't need aother detector but I couldn't resist. I am going to test it out this weekend rain permitting here in Knox county.

When I got mine in 2018 Sept it was a bargain. It was a used unit (build in 2011) and it was very noisy and unstable. But after I have done the master reset it worked like a charm. It came without a coil but is working with all my White's coils for the MXT & DFX. The VX3 ist like an MXT on steroids. I really like this machine, it's great depth and White's wireless headphone setup. So far the CZ-70 Pro was my deepest machine, second the MXT. But the VX3 goes far deeper. Plus MXT/DFX & VX3 are using the same power system and are well balanced. In the end of 2024 I sold the CZ for a reasonable price; and now I try to sell my DFX.
The VX3 is the same technology than the V3(i) but has different programs compared to the V3i. Same name, but different settings (which I find more powerful). For me it is like the MXT, a real switch on, tweak a little and go machine. All my White's Eclipse coils, a DeepScan 1400 DD included, are working on the VX3. For power supply I use a 3d-printed battery compartment for 3 18650 Li-Ion rechargeables.
When using one of the newer Eclipse 950 concentric coils it is a very deep and accurate detector. I'm also using the 7" & 9" Ultimate and the Arrow from Detech.
Oh, .. and it HAS the option to switch to different languages.
This really is a great multipurpose detector and the real successor model of the MXT to me.

Not only is the vx3 still a great machine, it's affordable today, even if you only use it a few times a year it's a nice change to everything that's out there built today..
I'm just as guilty as the next person of buying the newest out. What's funny is in the last 5 years these newer machines act like recovery speed, etc are like new technology and the vx3/V3i has all these features and more 20 odd years ago..
