Why are there------

keith!..would you say your omega separates as well as your f-75?
how about the depth in your dirt?..would you say the omega gets comparable depth to the f-75?
as to (e.mi.)..virtually non-existant?..thanks!

I just bought my second Omega for the wife. Since I was in the market, I asked the same question of the sellers.

Here are some of the answers:

I wanted to try a digital but realised I like the analog machines better.
I have acquired to many detectors and need to thin the herd.
I try all kinds of machines and since they hold their value, sell them if they are not better than what I have.
Tax man wants to get paid.
Hurt my back and can't hunt.
Bought two by mistake.

These were all in the last month. I really think most people don't give the Omega enough time to learn what it can do.

in the dirt ( Red Clay) I believe its a little deeper.. Not so much in air test but in the ground where it count's!!
E.M.I. It gets noisy over the 70 sens setting but that is silenced once you sweep the coil across the ground...The f-75 does not do this..Not in my dirt anyway..

The omega is really an impressive machine...Heck I bought 2 I liked it so much!!

Too many being sold in a short time if you ask me !! But then again no one asked me LOL

I did Elton---I asked you!!---And I VALUE your opinion!----I value ALL you guys opinions!---(Except the 5 minute expert that registered day before yesterday & has ??# posts--I'm speakin in generalities)---AND SHUT UP DEL!! :lmfao: ------Del

have seen a lot of em come and go..Has to be a reason........... Depth ? Stability? erratic?? Something not being liked by some.

Del can I add to this and ask..Who uses the Gamma 6000 and whats your thoughts on that model. I have a chance to get one and don't know anything about them at all..

Hey Elton----I've never had "a lick" of experience with the Gamma 6000 (never even had my paws on one).---Maybe Keith, Monte or any of the guys here could give you some input on that one.------I do see that both Mike Bearden & Andy Sabish did a field test on that detector.----Might pull them up (field tests) & check 'em out if you haven't done so already. ---------Del

That's just it Keith, you have to run the gain full max before you can adjust threshold. That doesn't work very well in high mineralized soils, where you need to
lower gain and raise threshold. It's just a bad design. But in Disc mode it's just fine. I suppose they were trying to save $$ combining the two.

seemingly so many Omegas comeing up for sale (or trade)?-----Seems like they just KEEP showing up for sale.----I guess it's not really a extra ordinary amount of them at one time but rather a "steady flow" of them (for sale).-----Maybe it's just ordinary #'s (business as usual) when you consider the number of new ones sold.----Then again, maybe I'm just seeing double or triple "for sale" ads!

Even more interesting, how FEW Deltas are being re-sold. I mean, I like mine, and am keeping it, but if it's just not everyone's cup of tea, you would expect to see a few out there.

My opinion is that the folks who bought Deltas are not as demanding as someone who buys an Omega, and the Delta IS a lot of detector for the money.

thanks keith!..appears to be a "sleeper" that has been awakened!..i coin hunt,so it's ALL
good news to me!

If you don't have the DD coil then I would maybe sell it also. It is a different machine with the DD and I mean that in a good way!

Having just gotten my Omega only 48 hours ago, and only playing with it in the back yard, I can see why folks would dump it real quick.I found that it's flaws really stick out, but you need to be able to see past them to see the potential in the machine.

I wasn't going to post them as it would appear that I'm being too negative. The ones I noticed as I found them. On assembly of my particular unit, the upper shaft was way too tight to fit into the control housing section. I had loosened it off, yet it took a fair amount of force to push it in. When it went in suddenly, it took some of the tip of my thumb off. (Most unpleasant). The speaker is ridiculously loud. I hate using headphones. I put a couple of layers of gaffer tape over the speaker, but I think it needs another layer. The multi tones only suite US coins. Our modern Aussie coins all come in the pull tab to screw cap range, which effectively turns it into a single tone machine. I'm a bit concerned with the hand grip. In the hour I used it in the back yard, I found that I was holding it tighter than I should which seemed to cause some fatigue. I'll have to keep reminding myself to loosen my grip. I think that it may be the angle of the grip that causes me to grip too hard. The notches are too wide to be any good. In particular, the pull tab notch. On most other machines, if I notch out pull tabs, I mostly loose only 10c pieces and can loose 5c pieces. With the Omega, I loose 5, 10, and 20c pieces. The detector overloads too easily, which can be irritating.
On the up side; I really like the auto tune mode for it's modulation. This can help to compensate for the lack of tones. I like the elliptical coil and the pinpoint mode. I believe that there are some really good prospects there to get the detector to talk to you about your targets. It seems to have the ability to feel around targets as well as using the overload feature to help sort out some shallow targets. Actually, the overload feature in disc mode may be useful at sorting out some surface targets. It goes off on our larger coins that may have junk targets that are smaller that are on the same numbers, while the reverse is often true of some of our other coins. The detector looked really sharp when I first pulled it out of the box.
It won't be till I've put some time on it out in the field that I'll know whether I'm going to like it or not. If I had been able to go to a shop and play around with it first, I probably wouldn't have bought it, however, I have so I'll get to know it and form an opinion of it down the track.
