Why buy a Deus ?

Architex

New member
I have been researching the Deus detector. You can see the detectors I have on my signature. I already know all the advertised features of it so no need to rehash those.

What I'm looking for are comments from those of you experienced with this detector (and possibly other brands) as to why I should buy one of the Deus units.

Thanks for your response.

If you have visited the forum and researched the Deus, you know what it does and what it was designed to accomplish.

There are plenty of comments on this forum that speak of what was found and what the benefits are in the field . . . much the way you will find comments on the V3i forum and the Explorer forum touting why that model is the best.

Detectors are a lot like pickup trucks . . some like Dodge, some like Ford, some like Chevy and some like other brands . . . if the detector you choose works for you and in your area, then that is probably the right detector for you.

You did not say where you live, what type of hunting you do and why you are looking at a different detector since you have two high-end machines already.

When you ask " What I'm looking for are comments from those of you experienced with this detector (and possibly other brands) as to why I should buy one of the Deus units.", it is a pretty open ended question and asking it on the Deus forum will give you responses that are geared towards the Deus.

I really doesn't matter why I might want one or what I hunt for or where; I travel and might be hunting most anywhere. Responses favoring Deus?.........Yes, that's the idea. Most forum responses are about finds or operation questions, some few of which are helpful. Maybe I should have asked, and will now......Why do you like your Deus?

Weight or lack thereof
Totally Wireless
Upgradeable
Performance in areas other machines stumble in
Versatility to handle most areas without complex adjustments; i.e., the V3i for example
Cost relative to other high-end detectors
Warranty support in the US
Accessories that help find more in the field rather than simply add to the manufacturers bottom line
Built by a company that actually uses their products

I'm sure others will add to the list

Thank you very much. Could you be kind enough to expand a bit on the "Performance in areas other machines stumble in" comment?

World class performance in iron.
Excels in carpet of nails better than any machine with comparable size coil.
Lite weight and wireless, no chords to hinder you when in tough environments.
Ground tracking in V4 is phenomenal.
As deep as my CTX and CZs just not as good of ID at depth.
ID is much improved in V4 though.
Out of the 13 detectors I own it is the first machine I grab when detecting a site.

I like everything mention above. One thing that stands out is the adjustability of 2 to 5 tones , along with being able to adjust the tonal frequency to you liking. If you want to hear the gold range in a high tone, you can do that. We had a war vet on here the other day who has a hard time hearing high tones. He flip flopped the tones giving iron a high tone and high conductors a low tone. I hunt with 5 friends we all owned different detectors. Every one of us now own a Deus. Our old detectors just sit and collect dust. Good luck with your decision.

Just the kind of stuff I was looking for. Thanks to all who responded.

I have use about everything on the market in the past 10 years and still have a few detectors. But I now own two XP's. I have one set up at 3,2 and one set at 4.0. The new 4.0 is great with the HF coil and the new pin pointer MI 6. I also like the 3.2. With the two XP's there are a few detector's I sold and no longer need. The XP cover so many types of hunting. I will also say if you aren't sure try to attend one of Andy's classes he know the machine and can help you make up your mind. At least buy Andy's book if you can't get to a class and read the book from front to back a couple times. You can't go wrong with at least one XP.

I migrated over to the Deus after enjoying using the Explorer SE Pro, mainly due to the weight of the Explorer and its inability to work in heavily iron infested sites. Being so light means extended hunts without feeling fatigued at the end of the day, even swinging the 13x11" coil. The Deus would have to be one of the most flexible detectors I have used with regards to performance, discrimination and tone settings, or on the other hand it can be a simple turn on and go detector if that is your thing.

The lack of weight and fast recovery speeds allows you to cover large tracts of ground in a short amount of time, whereas previously I would be down to a crawl with the Explorer trying to weed out out masked targets - covering a lot of ground means larger coils on the Explorer, and unfortunately that also means more weight.

Using the Explorer mainly on an open screen using multitones, I found it a pretty comfortable transition over to using fulltones on the Deus, I prefer to hear everything and use my ears to do the discriminating. Fulltones would have to be one of the most informative tone setting I have used on a detector, it really does allow you to detect solely via the tones rather than relying on less accurate target ID's.

Some people gripe about the fact that the Deus runs via rechargeable lithium batteries, though I find it extremely convenient that if you forget to charge up overnight, even an hour charge next morning will give you several hours of detecting time, not to mention being able to top up when in the field during lunch break.

A lot of thought has gone into this detector, both on ergonomics, quality of manufacture and futureproofing. Pretty hard to believe it was first released way back in 2009.

Thanks again for the replies, they are appreciated. I started looking at the Deus after seeing several references to it and the more I looked the more interesting it became. I think there nay be something of the future of detectors in it. I'm a little leery of the lipo batteries since I have a lot of experience with that type from flying electric RC airplanes. In that hobby the overall life of them is not great. But the Deus ones may be different, that's a part of why I wanted to hear from users. I am continuing to sort thru the forum for info and looking for videos.

Again,Thanks. :beers:

My batteries are starting to show their age,,,,the Deus' as well:) 2014 model
Another aspect of it is the modularity of the ergonomics. Nearly instant adjustment of the shaft , no pins , springs , holes or knobs to deal with , much like a etrac or CTX and no exterior wiring. I have detected several times under objects like decks and stairs where I just remove the coil and lower shaft and go for it,,,go stuff under there sometimes. If the election in France goes against the Euro no telling how low the price may go to the dollar. I'm waiting to buy a possible HF coil until we see what happens the currency situations,,,same with the Impact from Nokta
Updateable if you can hold your breathe long enough.

hear what your saying about the battery's but I am sure that RC devices pull a lot of amps for extended period and that's tough on most battery's, where the detector might pull 2 amps? not even that high far cry from a RC plane etc..

only the coil needs to be sent in to have battery changed from what I understand the others we can do.

I was one of the first people in my area to have a Deus. My machine went over 5.5 years without any battery issues at all. I sold it to a club member who has been hunting with it for about 1.5 years, still with no battery issues. I had the same misgivings when I started looking at them. The other great thing, I have discovered is the Deus service is quick and great. They sent me a brand new coil when I had a problem on a vacation. Offered to send yet another one to make sure the problem was fixed. I plan to hunt until there is a problem and then trust them to deal with it in a great way. So thankful they give us free updates instead of selling us new machines.
