I bought the DX-1 probe for my MXT a few weeks ago. I have been hunting for nearly 30 years and never really figured I needed a probe. I know a lot of detectorists say that it cuts down the retrieval time by 50% or so. But I was always pretty good at pinpointing. Well, I justified the purchase by figuring I could use the probe to find the target after digging the initial hole instead of lifting the machine and sweeping the plug, the hole, the plug, the hole etc. Yesterday was the first day I used it and I have to say it worked exactly like I had hoped. I would find a signal, kneel down and dig the hole, switch the toggle to probe and find the target. That darn little thing is hot at 2 - 3 inches and the VDI readings were the same with the probe as the coil making target verification a snap. Once I pocketed the coin, I stood back up, saddled up the probe and started detecting again. STOP! Did you understand that sequence? Notice anything missing? Neither did I when I was doing it. I must have hunted for 10 minutes before I finally realized that I had forgotten to switch the SunRay box back to the coil mode. Not just once, but three or four times throughout the afternoon. Have any others out there done this and will admit it? If so, will I ever get in the habit of switching it back, or will this DX-1 be up for sale soon? HH
