Why do we never discuss the word of God in here?......

Jim West Pa

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ.
Why is it that we never pick apart scripture....i see many "quotes" and copied and pasted passages. We never challenge each other.Scripture is NOT a cut and dried thing. Are we not meant to talk about it, take it apart, share our hermenutics and fellowship within the Word ? There is sooo much for us to learn thru discission ? So much that we can teach one another? sooo much room for growing within the Word of God.If we're not growing in God's word, are we not then spiritualy dying ?!?!?
It is WONDERFULL that we support and pray for one another as we as Christians should, but there is so much more that we can offer each other.

C'MON FOLKS... I NEEEED INSPIRATION AND GROWTH !!!!!!

I think that too often we run into people that believe they are the only ones who are right. Not long ago we had a guy come here and all he could do was tell everyone else they were wrong and how he was right! As far as he was concerned when the world ended, just him and God were going to be in Heaven! We also have different denominations represented here, therefore there will always be some differences in interpretation.

We should discuss scripture, pray for one another, talk detecting, talk family, build one another up, and yes help each other to grow. I think we are doing all those things here already. I know I may not have actually answered your question how you wanted Jim, but I believe we are not spiritually dying here. For several here those issues are taken care of in our every day life through our churches, or out in the mission field. There has been many great things done in the group! We have seen so many answers to prayer, miracles, we have done service projects, and this forum is even a mission field for some.and even growth in many of the folks here.

Maybe what you need can still be found here, I have thought that it would be cool if we had a different person do a mini Bible study each week, or something like that? What do you think?

God bless.

Mike

Different denominations !!!! That is great ! What a wonderful platform for discussion . I for one would love to hear thier interpretations. In fact,in our local bible study we were just discissing that very fact...reading and learning of different denominations so as to better understand our own beliefs, and thiers. Christ said...( paraphrasing).. i have other peoples that you do not know of.
A mini bible study would also be a great idea Mike. That's exaclty what i was attempting in my post below. I believe that we can do this and keep it civilized.
Oh yeah, i wasn't saying that anyone here was actually dying spiritualy, i was jist trying to stir things up a bit.

this is doable! :)

First God's word is absolute. Heremenuo, as you probably already know, is from two Greek words and means "to know". We may not have a full grasp on things in the Bible, like future events. Much of what is being wrangled about is actully settled but people follow men rather than God's word. Much of what is in the Bible is clear in the english but not all. God wants us to be of the same mind as Christ and yes, that's not happening everywhere. The church that I belong to is in a fellowship and not a denomination. The difference is each church is actually independant and agrees to the same doctrines as other churches in the fellowship. We can leave at anytime if there is a change within the fellowship that our church can't go along with. With me, it's not a matter of if I'm right but what the word of God says and it may not be that clear in the english. I know for a fact that if I were to address some issues here I would seperate Christian brothers. It's not an issue of cowardice but doing what is right.
May God bless all our Christian brothers and sisters on this forum.

I've been in the ministry for about 20 years and been on many "Christian" message boards and believe me, it was like being among wolves. Not everyone naming the name of Christ is a true believer. And so, based upon that, it is impossible to see eye to eye with the Panganized Christian who really thinks they are doing God a favor.

I'm not saying I am correct about everything. It is just that I've learned over many years that it is just plain difficult to get Christians of different denominations to see the same thing because we are all at different levels of maturity.

I'd like to discuss things like:

1) Evil: What is its origin and its end?

2) God: Is He at peace with the world now or mad at the world?

3) Christ's sacrifice: What really is going to come out of Christ's sacrifice for humanity? I could take the pre-Nicene stance on this which many Christians are not privy to. But it might gender more heat than light on this board.

I can see in your posts that you guys have had previous experiences with this subject and it seems like it didn't go very well (?).
I have noticed that in "discussion" forums things go awry when folks allow thier emotions into play.I for one am NOT looking for heated debates or arguments. KNOWLEDGE, knowledge is what i seek.
A while ago i was talkin with someone in here and told them that i am not a reader of the bible per say. I very rarely just sit and read it simply because i have trouble comprehending these days. And frankly, i jist don't seem to understand much of it unless i'm fellowshipping with others and can get thier input. Janet and i sit together and she does the reading and by the grace of God it becomes oh so clear to me hearing it from her.
As stated above, i also attend a non denominational church,it too is a church of fellowship. In fact, what Janet and i do is to follow the guidence of the Holy Spirit when it comes time to attend. We have no idea which church we are going to until it's time to leave sunday morning. There are a few different ones around here that we "end up" at acocrding to where we are led that day.We like to "stay out of the box" so to speak and follw God's mesages where ever they may be that day.
As i was telling Mike below.......when at a bible study one nite the pastor paraphrased Jesus and told us that He said.."i have peoples you do not know yet".THAT.. fired me up and caused me to hunger more of our Lords words and teachings, to hear from and talk with these other people, learn of thier ways and beliefs and find out just what message God has to offer thru them.I want to be able to ask questions about different beliefs and not have that person offended by them.
I'm an infant to this guys, i turned from my unpracticed catholisism of 47 years and began my walk with Jesus nondenominationaly, (is that a word?)alongside my wife Janet 4 years ago.
I hope that we can do this.
Jim

I enjoy talking about scripture, and what it means to me, but as others have spoken, much more eloquently than I, there is a lot of disagreement over meanings and doctrines. The net result would be to tear down, rather than build up. We are a product of the thoughts of those we have exposed ourselves to, and are surrounded by. So those thoughts that have been planted in our hearts and minds are difficult to overcome. That is one thing that I have taken away from our brush with Mark Cook (the guy that Mike alluded to), here on the forum. I could see the sense that he was coming from, as he told us how wrong we were, but many ideas were to difficult for my learning and upbringing to overcome, therefore I had to reject him and his thoughts. I guess in that sense, I can see why the pharisees rejected Jesus. He was to mind-breaking for them to deal with. Thats why he chose uneducated fisherman to follow him and to teach the world. Thats why he chose the gentiles to take His word...they were clean slates. All that rambling to say this...It is difficult for us to discuss a "controversial" scripture without someone becoming offended in some manner. Our purpose is to build up, not destroy, so therefore scripture discussions should be light. I think a good building exercise is to give scriptures that mean a lot to us, and have helped us through good and bad times. That would build us up, not separate us. And, the purpose of the Christian Metal Detecting forum is to talk about Metal Detecting(something I'm not very good at doing either:)). For deeper discussions on the scripture, we can meet at Crosswalk.com or some place like that.

The best to you Jim!

J.

I am glad that you are so hungry for the word! That is a good sign!
I think we can fill the need, and we will all be blessed by it! :)
