Why I dig zincolns.....A huge hunk of gold!

DiGGER27

New member
On my other forum I keep telling everyone to dig zincolns, or at least why I dig them.

All kinds of cool stuff comes up here.

Less than one minute after hitting a new site I swung 4 times, hit a zinc signal on the F2 and found this.
The rest of the day was just a dream.
Already tracked down the owner and in a couple of days after showing this off I will contact him.
Can't seem to take my eyes off of it or get it off my finger yet!

The F2 got it so I posted this here...Mods, you can move it to another place if you like.
48 zinc signal 2 inches down in the ground...a solid 55 zinc in air testing

Great find. That will get your heart to skip a beat. I like digging zincolns too. Thx for sharing.

Sweet find . How many kt is it.
The higher the kt the more conductive it is .
Plus the bigger/more mass the higher the ID.

This is why many Lady's rings ID around foil, but that's OK
thy have the stones.

Nice find and an important tip. I am glad to read that you have tracked down its owner and this only helps the hobby in the public eye.:clapping:

Great find. And metal detecting lesson. The fact that you are returning this to its owner is the greatest part of this find. I hope you find lots of silver & gold that you can keep. You deserve that. Digger27.....you have true integrity:clapping: .

"outrageous" find and a "pat on the back" for locating the owner! good on you!
you will have made someone very happy because of your gesture of good will!

Thanks everyone!

This is 10k and about the biggest ring Jostens makes.
21 grams
It's hard to see, but deep under the amethyst is a color red white and blue picture of the confederate battle flag.
They don't seem to do pictures for rings anymore, just laser cut designs on the bottom of the stone.
That battle flag is also politically incorrect so you can't get that either like you could in 2002 when this ring was made.

I finally showed this to everyone that came within 3 feet of me for the last few days so I tried to call the owner but nobody was home last night.
I will try again tonight

Not really expecting or wanting a reward, but there are 2 things I am going to request.

1. I am going to ask this kid to get me permission from his parents, and he still lives with them, and his neighbors and and his other relatives to let me and one other friend hunt their lawns, properties and or farm fields, whatever I can get.

2. I also will ask him to get with any of his relatives, especially the older ones, for information on this small old town that they all live in.
It was started in 1865 and settled in 1901 when it began to grow to it's current population of about 2000 today.
Wikpedia says a lot of the current residents family lines go back all the way to the original settlers.
I hope this guys family is one of them.
Info on old dried up swimming holes, sites for fairs, dances and all the other things that only the old people know and remember.

I believe if I can get him to do these 2 things for me I will have a chance to find more worth than the $450 value melt that the gold in this ring has today.

Plus, I get to have fun with a friend and make a kid and his family happy, too.
I would be if someone just gave me a chunk of gold and memories back for no charge.

I will keep you posted.

Well, I finally tracked the guy down through a friend that works at a local GMC dealership and after playing phone tag and told him I had his ring.
He lost it several years before and NOT in the location that I found it.
Weird!

I asked him to see if he can get me permission to hunt some private properties and the jury is still out on that one, but we will see.

I recorded the conversation if you would like to listen to it here...

A side note.
I believe in doing the right thing and if you do, the good karma will come back to you.

I am giving this ring back, but on my very next hunt just this morning, my F2 had a tab signal this morning, solid 42 and no jumping around, and about 3 inches down was...more gold!
A wrecked up 10K ring that was very nice at one time, but still looks good in the melt pile,, anyway.

This one I am keeping!

From my previous post......

"I hope you find lots of silver & gold that you can keep. You deserve that. Digger27.....you have true integrity"

Guess it didn't take the Universe long to fulfill your order.........lol.............congrats!!!!

Well, after very spotty contact over the last few weeks he finally called me today and picked up his ring.

He lost this about 4-5 years ago and about 1/2 mile from the spot where I found it.
He didn't even realize it was 10k gold, or actually what is was worth, today.
I told him.
Then he said at the very least for returning it he will work on getting me permission to hunt some relatives lawns and lands for this, but he said they are all weird, so who knows.

Not holding my breath.

I will always have my pictures and memories of this ring, and at least now maybe I have enough Kama points so I can find the fiance a nice gold ring she can wear.
