Why the ACE 250 slam?

Agree with all of the above. I've had my 250 since December 08 and it certainly has paid for itself - and I only get out detecting twice a week at max! It it's there, the Ace will find it. No doubt.

I love my Ace so much that my Tesoro Cibola rarely gets a look in.

Truth be told I've found more "super" finds with my $200.00 older "cheap" machines. The exception is waterhunting, I've got two good machines for that Stingray 2 and a BHID, That's only cause waterproof machines are more expensive. When the ground gets soft I'll be posting some finds from my Ace 250!

The ACE 250 when fitted with the big coil will find rings and coins at up to 10" to 12" without any problem. Trouble is, this machine will outperform most others costing in excess of $1200 and that includes some much higher priced Garretts, so in a way, Charlie Garrett is a victim of his own success. In dry sand areas of the beach little else that comes near to matching the 250's performance, and its Discrim is spot-on. Used in conjunction with a Sea Hunter II (for the wet sand areas and surf), you have the total beachcombing solution.

The build quality of these machines is First Rate, as one would expect, and especially from a metal detector (the Sea Hunter II), that's capable of withstanding the rigours and pressures at 200' depth. The ACE 250 is seldom outclassed as an inland coin hunter either, and will find nuggets too.

I'm like Slingshot above. At first I thought I'd made a mistake but after some real good advice on this forum on the proper settings and spending some time on it understanding What it was telling me ,I could not be happier.

I have never had a problem with the Ace 250. Most people I know who bought the Ace 250 have no problems (except maybe getting used to the pinpoint).
On the other hand, look at all the problems Fishers has had with their new machines. I'm not suggesting that anyone should go slamming Fishers by any means. My point is that The Ace really has had few mechanical/electronic complaints levied against it as compared to so many other metal detectors, such as Fishers for one. But even Fishers has done everything they can to fix the problems with the F-series. Personally, I'll stay with Garretts and Whites as so far they seem to be the most reliable machines out there.
Katz

Look what I caught.

Me and the Ace are going to take a trip to the site where I found my Tombac button the other day. There is gold in them thar hills. To the nay sayers that think the Ace 250 is a kids toy. Ha Ha That machine has made me a ton of spending cash.

I don't keep up with the new models much, but I'd be willing to wager it's still the
best sub $300 machine out there. Maybe even sub $400... But like I say, I don't
keep up with all the new stuff, so commenting on them would be as biased as the
non Garrett users ragging the Ace 250's. :/

I'll say one thing.. I'm still glad I bought an Ace 250 compared to everything else
that was out there at a comparable price. I've never had trouble finding metal with it,
and that's the bottom line. Also, if you add the two extra coils, the machines capability
can easily outdo other machines that don't offer the extra coils.
After having one for over three years, I'd still recommend it to anyone that wants
a good machine for a low price. In a second.. :)
I'm sure some machines are better, but they don't cost $212.. And the coils are
reasonably priced also..

That's disgusting!:ranting: It took me over 3 years before I found my first gold ring.:poke:
All jokes aside. Congrats on finding it.:clapping: If you hunt beaches then you are in a good location to find them.
Mick Evans.
P.S. It really did take me over 3 years to find one.:nopity:

When I was holidaying up on Queenslands Gold Coast, I took the Ace to the beach with a couple of other detectors that I owned and experimented on some targets at the beach. What surprised me most, was when I armed the Ace with the large coil, on dry sand, it had about an inch more reach on a $2 coin than the Explorer armed with it's 10.5 in DD coil! It had 2 inches more reach than I could get out of my X-Terra 30 armed with it's standard and 10.5 in DD coil. When someone on the X-Terra forum asked for some depth comparisons, none of them could cope with the results that I posted. There were a number of them that only saw it as a junk detector, even though they were quite experienced detectorist. They had admitted to not spending enough time with it though.
Using the mentioned coils;on a $2 coin, which is about three quarters of an inch in diameter, the Ace hit it at 10 inches
the Xterra 30 hit it at 8 inches(the 70 will go deeper in
prospecting mode)
The Explorer hit it at 9inches.(After 12 passes, it could hear
it at 10 inches)
Being a cheap detector, who'd want to use the Ace anyway. After all it's just a toy.

I WILL say this. I found most of my problems in high trash areas-and that's why I'm going to get the sniper. I think the configuration of the coil and it's sensitive nature just have to fight harder in high trash areas. I mean, you oughta just watch that graph in high trash areas sometimes. Now when I get in the wide open fields or at fairly clean schools it gets super quiet. Since I am surrounded by high trash areas which are highly productive, the sniper is going to be a must.

Well I have had some luck with the Ace but I have missed stuff too. At sites I have used the ace many times and I have had my Ace almost two years the first time I used an MXT if was finding things I passed over with the ace, however I am not saying Ace is bad I jusy had a different experiece but I will still use my ace too!!

Well I am not sure about the other forums but, I do belong to another forum here in Canada and it doesn't put the ace250 down at all in fact it is well greeted as well as promoted as a "first" detector. I have one it is my first and I will not be judgemental about other detectors as I just have one. It is amazing how people jump on a band wagon. Like another poster said on here he bought the dredded rifle. Well I have a dredded rifle too and it shoots better than alot of the other rifles in fact I would put it up with the best of them. This rifle cost me $150.00. Cost means nothing. Just like in sex it is not how big it is.. it is how you use it.

To My Fellow Detectorist, The Garrett Ace 250 is the finest metal detector on the market today for the price. One would have to spend nearly $600 and purchase a White's M-6 to come close to what the Ace will do for less than $250! Is the Ace 250 the end all? Absolutely not! However it is a fantastic unit for those 'New' to the hobby of metal detecting and, for that matter, a great back up machine for experienced detectorist. When the Ace 250 came onto the market, all the other manufacturers were sent back to the drawing board! Often one will get exactly what they pay for, with the exception to the Ace 250 where you get much more than the meager $250 asking price.

OK

I have with held long enough from commenting. I purchased "2" ACE250's for my wife and I. I have all 3 coils and am in the process of getting the pro-pointer. I will have everything I need to do any kind of detecting except for under water and using it in salt water (which I have not tried yet or have had negative results from comments) I am still hopeful in seeing some success in that area. So far I am extremely happy with the little use in a wide range of areas and sites that I have been able to accomplish with the ACE. I DO NOT CONSIDER IT A BEGINNERS DETECTOR. A beginners detector is a Wally-World or a Radio Shack special. When you have a unit that can find coins at depth, relics, jewelry, tokens, artifacts, precious metals, etc...etc...you DO NOT HAVE A BEGINNERS DETECTOR! Especially when it can out perform other high priced high end detectors. It is an all around machine and does what it says it does and more. As someone said up the post it is how you use the tool! It is not hard to do.

I have many opportunities waiting for usage of may ACE's I have my parents 1800's home in Tn. I have a creek system to detect to see if gold exists there. I have a rock club that I belong to that I can use the detector to find the metallic minerals. It is an all around "jam up" machine and I can't wait to put it to it s fullest potential!

GO GARRETT!!!!!
Don

Here we go...
I've been detectin for only a year and the detector i've used for all that time is a Garrett Ace 250. On my land here in the UK i've had MD friends with me with their "state of the art " machines costing 4 or 5 times the amount of my machine. So i was expecting to have been blown away by there rate of finds , but the truth was i matched them signal for signal and at the end of the day i retrieved more quality stuff than they did.So with that confidence in my machine i took the 250 on holiday with me to a place called Scarborough on the east coast here in the UK. Walking the beach one early morning a fellow detectorist came onto the beach and i noticed he had a XTerra 30. Holding my 250 aloft and shouting "good morning " it was obvious he wasn't in the mood for chit chat and took off down the beach hoping to get all the finds before i did.So as a test , i followed his footsteps to see if he had missed anything ,After only 15 mins he was a mile in front of me cos i was held up by digging targets he had missed.So......in summary is the Ace250 a kiddies toy ..? NO...this machine in only one year has found me over a thousand pounds worth of gear in a year...not bad for something that cost

Good post Steve.
I've found the Ace is better than most non Garrett users realise.I've been slammed for stating what it was capable compared to a couple of other machines. They couldn't believe the result. But it is what it is and when you know your machine, then it can be amusing when others slam it ignorantly.
Mick Evans.

There are more ACE250 owners than there are GTAx550 owners. It sounds like a nice MD.I'd like to check one out myself.
