Why use Pitch Hold?

I think the idea is that if the coil passes over a very faint, deep coin, or a non-ferrous target sandwiched between trash .. pitch hold will hold the tone so you can hear it longer instead of getting a very short "beep" that you might otherwise not notice. I'd like to believe that this would come in handy if you are creeping super slow in a trash-infested spot.

Okay, thanks for that. So if one chooses pitch hold it would mostly be used for trash and going slowly.
