Hi all, I told you that I was going metal detecting last Sat. with a friend that just got a new Ace 250 for Christmas. We went out to an old area near Smithville, TX called Upton. We were hunting near some old houses and near the Rail road. This is one of my finds from that day. It is an old Rail Road lock. It has (Close The Lock To Get Key Out) on one side and on opposite side it has MK&T R Y on it. This was the name of the Rail road also known as Katy Rail Road. They have a Rail Road Museum down town Smithville that I am going to see if they would like to have it in their Museum.

The side that has the close lock on it is hinged and you move it to the side and you can see the key hole. Anyway...thought some of you might like to see it.

My friend and I are going Tue. & Wed. to Galveston to do some beach hunting. I haven't got to use my Garrett Sea Hunter in a while. Can't wait to use it! Hope we find some rings!! My best find in Galveston that I found with my Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II was a mans Platinum ring with 7 round diamonds in it. It appraised for $2,350. The most rings I ever found in one day of hunting was 7 rings! 3 gold, 2 silver and one junk ring! Hoping for at least one ring!

Can't wait! Hope we have good weather!!
Happy Hunting!!

nice finds, cant wait to get out with my detector again, just gotta wait for my friend to get his bum in gear lol. thanx for the suggestion of sea urchin, by the way, you were right. HH Chris

neat lock, good job

Nice old lock!! Good luck down in Galveston, hope some gold comes up in your scoop. A few of us were down there at the end of October and had a blast even tho the gold eluded us. We hunted the first day in front of some of the hotels and the next day at Stewart Beach. The second day produced a nice silver cross and a worry ring working the high tide line. The first pic is the ring, cross and the coins I won and found at the competition hunt on the third day. The second pic is a Galveston sunrise and the third is me in the shorts and my hunting buddy Gayle chatting it up at the hunt. Hope the weather holds for you and you get to see one of those beautiful sunrises!!

Hey Big Cat Daddy, What competition hunt was that in Galveston? Looks like you were pretty successful at the hunt!
I lived in Galveston for 5 years. I owned a metal detecting store for about 3 years while I lived there. My biz was called
The Treasure Finders. Rented and sold metal detectors. Had a blast doing it, but didn't make much because the mark up on the detectors isn't all that high. Made more off the rentals.

Great pic of the Sun Set!! I miss those sun sets & sunrises over the Gulf coast. My favorite time to hunt was at sun set! I also loved night hunting in the summer! Nothing like the moon shinning over the water at night and hearing the waves and doing some metal detecting!! I did alot of water hunting when I lived there too. I guess I won't be doing any water hunting this time just beach and wet sand. I will keep you posted on the finds we get while we are there. Hope we each bring back some goodies!

Well, have a good one!

JG

The Galveston Club put it on and got the prizes together. It was a great hunt with a good turnout. We had great weather the whole 3 days we were there. I monitor the Texas Council of Treasure Clubs website and try to make it to the hunts that are close to me(Pflugerville) and if there's gonna be one on the coast, I'm there no matter how far!! Here's the shotgun start of the last hunt of the day.

Big Cat Daddy, So I guess you would of seen some of my old hunting buddies at the club hunt. I was president of the Galveston Island club when I was there. I helped get the club started.

Pflugerville isn't too far form me. Let me know next time they are having a hunt I would love to go. I am planning on going to the hunt & treasure show that the TCTC is putting on in march in Longview.
My parents live near Longview so I will stay there when I go.

Was the pic of the hunt on Stewart beach?
Thanks for sharing!
JG

Yep, Stewart Beach is right!! I'm probably not going to make the Longview hunt, just a wee too far. Now if there was a beach.......And besides, that's just about the time the Corps parks start to re-open for the Spring and I'll be ready for some swim area hunting. My scoop and Excals are getting mighty lonely over there in the corner and I've about beat all the local soccer fields to death for their gold!!!
