Will the myth become legend.

I'm talking about the mythtek 18 inch coil from coiltek........and no it won't,let me explain.
I bought the coil for beach hunting because of its coverage and supposedly extra depth which is one of the areas of detecting that this coil was designed for......relatively clean large open areas.First time out and i was hopeful, great coverage, sensitive to small targets and not as heavy as i thought it would be.Second time out started to show up its shortcomings and they are quite significant.Firstly depth.....i did a depth test on a coin i test all my coils on the beach with and it was disappointing......less depth than my Minelab 15 inch coil.
Secondly, the beach i took it to today had a bit of iron contamination, usually from tent pegs, hair grips and other ferrous crap that holiday makers leave behind and the coil struggled, target signals were sketchy and pinpointing became very difficult......its not great on a beach that has any amount of iron contamination it's just hard work trying to pick the good signals from the junk.......and most beaches have a certain amount of iron contamination.
Basically,a coil of this size is a step too far i feel and is very specialist.......if you have very uncontaminated beaches or inland sites and are looking for larger targets it might be something to look at.If you are expecting extra depth on targets such as rings and coins i think you will be disappointed,it loses out on depth to my minelab 15 on the beach and i expect it will be even worse on thinner, smaller jewellry, whether it will do the same in soil im not sure but i think it will suffer all the problems on inland sites that it did on the beach.
In conclusion........my own conclusion........it has very limited applications, its just too big to be useful for anything other than very clean sites and bigger targets.Others may have different opinions and better results but im sticking my neck out and saying the 15 incher from minelab is a far better choice and this conclusion was arrived at from only two outings with the mythtek.
Sorry guys but i just can't recommend this coil in any way........it's a bit of a lemon unless you have a very specific use for it.....too big to be practical.
