Disclaimer: I've only saw a small Kellyco add for these new machines so I don't know how good they are, but from the picture it appears to be a compact unit the same configuration and size of normal detectors...but with a color imaging screen that shows a picture of the coin under the coil. If this is true (Maybe the ad is misleading?) and they get say 12" of depth then that will in my opinion spell the death of this hobby. All public sites will be cleaned out of old coins, rings, and other good finds. What will be left is ring hunting in the water for what was dropped the night before, clad shooting at newer schools that nobody will bother with because of no potential for old coins, and hunting private property. Old coin hunting or ring hunting at old parks will be pointless because it'll all be gone.
Now that I've stepped out on a limb somebody can set me straight here because I only saw a small ad, and we all know how that can be deceiving. On the other hand, if it's not true it is going to happen some day and that will be sad to see. The hobby will eat it's self. No more mystery or finds to still be had at worked out sites. Kind'a like fishermen fishing a fish to extinction and then having nothing left to do. At least with conventional detector technology there will always be finds left to be made for years to come. Not so if you can see a picture of the target before digging it.
Now I just have to go on kellyco and see that I was way off.
