at work yesterday I had to change the letters on the sign out by the road. Suction cups don't stick to plastic covered in frost so had to go back out later....when the windchill was even lower...it was 9 below when I went out the first time. 2nd time I went out the sun came out and got rid of the frost but the wind picked up and it was now 19 below zero.
Today 30 below and I am staying inside as much as I can. Our poor dogs we have had to go get them when they went outside to pee as their feet were freezing and they couldn't walk. We don;t leave them out there...they ran out did what they needed to do but then sniff and do more here there and everywhere. They don't understand.
Having served in the military in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan for 2 - four year terms at the same air base up around Marquette...I know about frostbite and extreme cold. Being out changing the signs in sub-zero temps was not difficult for me.
At 10 below zero any exposed flesh will freeze within 1 minute!!!!! Dress in layers if you have to go out and cover EVERYTHING.
I don't wear my glasses outside for 2 reasons...they fog up with the heat coming off my face covering and the heat rises and hits the cold glassed and fog up so I can't see and the other reason is they have wire frames and metal gets cold and transmits it along the bows to the side of my head. Trying to keep cold out.
Best solution to these cold temps is to stay indoors if at all possible.
I have had frostbite on my ears. Once you have gotten frostbite it is easy to get it again in the same spot.
Stay warm and stay safe and be sure to watch your pets when they go outside...you can't leave them unattended or they will freeze their feet and can't move...you have to be ready to get them...Sherry and I have a coat and boots by the back door we put one...before....we let them out.
