Winterizing your detector

Well-known member
Well guys I hate to admit it but its time.Single digits in the morning low teens by noon! Just some thoughts on taking care of our investments in this wonderful hobby(addiction) The first thing I do is pull the batteries, then I disassemble the unit.Wipe every thing down with a damp cloth, paying close attention to the cam locks.I also take a micro cloth and wipe the screen with an optical cleaner,Then I put a light coat of Armorall on everything but the screen.I found this helps to keep the mud from sticking and also provides a bit of water repellent.Am I missing anything? Would like to hear any additional tips from u other northerners on this subject. For u Southerners keep on swinging and posting so to keep us from going nuts till spring!!!!..........hh rick in mi.

Yeah, weve had the coldest week since 09..us poor michigan hunters...lots of snow from the lake effect finally, which means lots of loot lost on the sledding hills.:clapping: This is how I winterize my rig...the plastic bag over the coil not only looks stylish, but it also keeps the snow from balling up on the coil. I will sell one of these coil covers to any of you that wants one for a dollar.

A Real Buy isn't it ...LOL

I'll let you all know, still shopping around a little.

Rick, Mud started the hi jacking. It's all his fault. Some just get a little punchy in the winter time. HH jim tn

Sorry Rick! The Southern guys winterize their detectors by disconnecting the coil wire, then turning the detector upside down and shaking it a little, so all of the summertime electrons drain out of the wire. Tab must be getting his coil covers from China! I get mine local.

47 here this morning. Actually warmed up some over night. Consequently, detectors still running on summer time electrons. Off to the dentist, then some summer time swinging. Tabman is going to show me his new and full line of coil covers. I think they are designed for those skinny Tesoro coils, though. HH jim tn
