Wireless headphones without the WS4 puck

I just plugged my Deteknix W3 wireless headphone transmitter into the headphone jack of the xp controller with the speaker turned off and they work great. Don't see any need to have the WS4 puck. Has anyone else tried this and if so, how did it work for you?
 
I've been using the tdk wr 700s and the auvios 33-283s for a long time work great and the tones are on par with the ws4s. do need a small inline volume control to plug into the controller cause of the poor design of the headphone jack on the controller tho
