WISC Law change

This was forwarded to me, thought everyone would like to know.........

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has changed their Metal Detecting policy. The previous policy allowed metal detecting with a permit. The new policy requires a permit, but it pertains only to a specific item lost, all items recovered must be presented and reported to the property office for comparison with the permitted recovery. The property office will keep all recovered items not belonging to the permittee. This policy covers Wisconsin State Parks and all DNR managed land and water. Wisconsin DNR managed waters cover ALL navigable waters

"But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever."

~ John Adams, Founding Father and Second President of the United States

"The freedom and happiness of man...[are] the sole objects of all legitimate government."

~ Thomas Jefferson, Founding Father and Third President of the United States

Now I know how the American Indians felt, when White man trespassed and took over! Now we are turning on ourselves......Bad White man!
Next thing you know, all but the unimportant can drive a car....the rest will have to walk.....what the heck are we finding that bothers them so much....there has got to be a motive here....I think any state or town with such restrictions such as these, the People as a whole should put their foot down and say, even so we all do not detect, we see you taking our rights away one at a time....and before you take my right away to drive on Sundays, I have to oppose any legislature that takes away such rights as freedom to due as we please as long as we are not harming man or enviroment. Enough is Enough! Our persuit of happiness varies, but when one piece at a time gets taken away.....lookout world....You are next!......I really want to know what exactly is the problem with folks, familys, friends, spending a day detecting and finding a few coins,buttons,bullets,etc.....that are rotting away in earth......that bothers them so much....WHAT IS THE REAL REASON?

The Government can drop Nuclear and Hydrogen Bombs and kill millions of innocent people and leaves craters way to big for mother nature to fix.....yet here we are digging little plugs and replacing them in a good manner, and Mother Nature heals it......In my eyes we cannot defend ourselves.....it is hopeless....unless we stand up and .......

It's pretty much an example of the sort of fascism that is going on with government. I live in Wisconsin and while I don't hunt water areas that sucks what they are doing. Next it will be land areas too.

I wonder who's pocket this recovered property will wind up in? TN state parks have the same policy. Sorta takes the fun out if it. With the bad economy, you would think they would have something else to occupy their time.

Exactly....next it will be no dogs in parks, next it will be, if you smoke you will be asked to only smoke in your home, next it will be, no black souls allowed in the malls, due to marks, next it will be....ETC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get my drift....do we have a bunch of old ladies making these laws.....or is it the Church trying to cash in on what ever....I could go on and on and on....what in sam hell is the problem?........Give me a break....shut up and live and let live people....cause it is going to all back fire on your stupid azzz....

O my word! I would just keep the items found. This is getting way out of hand. I think there is some kind of element going on in the archeo slug world because every time we see this type of law change there is one lurking in the background.

Like I said in the Louisville situation if a potential site has been found to contain some archeological artifacts then by all means have it cornered off and have no MD allowed. I have absolutely no problem with that and I am total agreement with it but don't just take every bit of land that exists in the state and lump into a closed minded law.

So what happens if I find a Buffalo Nickel. Is someone going to claim it as their own? Who gets the coin who the person who lost it decades or centuries ago?? This is so asinine it's not even funny. Who is the pen1s shaped headed person who thought out this one? JHC!

If you look at what they are doing here and other places you can see an undertow from the archaeological community. Those college educated bumbling fools should get off their leather cushioned a55es and do the real work like what we do! 99.9% of them make a discovery because Johnny Hunter when he was out deer hunting and getting hammered on Budweiser & JD fell into a hole and then found a few bones, heehee. How stinking pathetic!

Research, gridding, cataloging, preserving, cleaning, blah, blah, blah. We do the same stuff you people do and we didn't pizz away $160,000 to know how to do it. Look at what Derrell did. He spent $7 on a hammer probably and got the goods on something that you NEVER would have found in a million years.

What I see is a bunch of lazy a55 college educated people who do not want to get the hands calloused with the view of expecting the treasures of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull without doing any of the above work that we do YET they want to constrict and manipulate the officials with the mentality of a bunch of school boys losing their marbles in a game. .I..

I didn't read all the posts, but DNR is Federal land isn't it? How can the State apply a law to Fedreal land? It's time to stop messing with the State level donkeys and contact your US Reperesentativ or Senator about that issue. Petitions are like $&^@()#+, everyone has one. Maybe we all ought to pony up and join/create NDA. National Detectorist Association. It could be our hobbie's version of the NRA. Once had a city try to approve a 3000 foot lighted runway in the middle of a urban lake for float planes. I went to a city coucil hearing being held about the matter and spoke as a potential impacted person living outside the city. The chair dismissed my comments and told me to tell my County council person as I had no say as it was a city issue. I had done so and the councilperson rose, was officially recognized by the chair, and made a few pertinent comments. That ended the float plane lighted runway. Jim

You just happen to loose a hand full of silver coins in the park!! There is noo way they could prove you didn't!!!!

Amen Brother,Amen!

No, but do you really think they are going to let you get away with that? They write the rules, and if you don't like it I would assume they will ticket and/or jail you, take your detector, and your vehicle for good measure, and maybe torture you as bastardly as they are. Think Waffen SS without the cool uniforms and you have the situation pretty well covered.

What is this country coming to? Wisconsin is becoming an embarrassing state to live in because of the dictator ship of the Governor. the dnr who think they are god and you will do exactly what they say or be punished. I like to have a smoke every so often and our fine Governor Doyle just keeps raising the price of a pack of smokes think now it is going to 6 or 7 dollars a pack, he admited that boose is next on his list to clean up the state of tax paying smokers and drinkers. profit for the state at our expense. Love to walk in a park with granddaughter detecting, . Now some jerk for the dnr says no no you can not do that you might find something of value. These people are nothing more than servants to the people not god. I am very pissed at the state of WI and the high taxes we have, our rights are taken away and now we have to fight to get back what we already had thanks to some mindless people. Just my thoughts about WI.
