Wobble in Sea Hunter Lower shaft

EasySwing

New member
Got my Sea Hunter yesterday and assembled it. The lower shaft is attached using only one nylon bolt and as such wobbles. Why would Garrett not put another hole for a second bolt to attach the heavy coil / shaft to the connector shaft. I heard about some shaft locks. Where can I get them and what are they called.? The shaft really wobbles as well as the arm rest. My other detector an MXT is rock solid using shaft locks on the lower rod. I took it out for a quick test run and found 3 coins and 2 bottle caps in the wet sand. I ordered a pro stock scoop 9 1/2" wide one today so I can go into the water. It does indeed go deep. Any info to firm up the wobble would be appreciated. Thanks. Marty

Does anyone know where I can get some shaft locks for the Sea Hunter ?
The more specific what they are the better for me. Thanks guys Marty

Hey Marty, I have another suggestion that I personally use to stabilize my water hunting shafts. I set the shaft to the desired height and drill through both sides of the cam lock holes. Then I take stainless bolts, with a stainless flat washer on either side and shore it up with a stainless nylock nut. It completely stabilizes the shaft and is especially noticeable in the surf, where a slight bit of shaft play can cause excessive premature fatigue.

That is a great idea, but the only problem is it is not the lower shaft, but the upper shaft that connects to the handle. The inner connecting tube is short and plastic and does not extend enough to drill through it and bolt through. The inner shaft is bolted to the handle part with 2 bolts - no problem. The lower end of the internal shaft that helps connect the entire lower shaft to the handle connects with 1 single hole and with a plastic bolt. I am going to first call Garrett to see what they say, and try to get a longer inner connecting shaft maybe not out of plastic. I will incorporate your great advise. Marty

Shaft Locks for Garrett Infinium and Sea Hunter New!

Are you tired of the lower rod wobble? This shaft lock does not use a cam, it just closes around the lower rod and holds it securely. Made of strong ABS with stainless steel hardware, so it will last for many years.
These Locks will fit both Infinium oversized shafts and the newer 7/8" detector shaft used on the AT Pro; and the best part is: there is "No Drilling" required to install!
Free shipping in the USA! International buyers: please add $3 for one, $1 for each addtional one purchased. Wait for my invoice before paying if you are not sure how to add the additional charges.

Rods by Plugger on *Bay.

Got one for my stock Infinium, works like a champ. $16
