Wonder if Minelab ever considered...

An Explorer from the factory in a chestmout configuration..Jimmy Sierra mad a fine one for the heavy Eagle Spectrum and even for the XLT which didn't sell well as the XLT already had been weight trimmed with excellent weighting...We all know in its present configuration just hard to hip or chest mount. Certainly a thought as many complain of the weight and ergonomics...Minelab are you listening..Personally at 68 can handle an Explorer for several hours which is an average hunt but surely could benefit the fellows that hunt all day...

Hipmount versions and various devices such as what you mention can put the weight on the spine and larger muscles of the back. Indeed may work for many but if you have a bad back be careful. Remember the weight doesn't go away its transferred to other parts of your body that are usually stronger in most cases and alleviates problems for most....However a sore arm is one thing but a sore back or spine problem is really serious might try one of these devices and there a several I know of and if problems occur time to discontinue...Heck even seen one fellow with a cord attached near the coil and he swung with two hands so whatever works...

I haven't had a sore back yet from detecting ( I do have a bum back but only it I twist) It does get sore on the top of the shoulder though if I hunt hard all day with the WOT.
What really is a bummer though is getting OLD....

Only alternative to growing old is dying young...Got out yesterday and found the ground to be quite frozen even if it reached 70, man my left leg is sore as I bend on one leg. Even though only an inch or two could be dug the track surrounding the old football field was up for grabs as no one was using it..Hoping for a piece of jewelry I was up and down collecting some junk jewelry a whole lot of tabs and some clad. Going to be a while before I can dig for deepies...but certainly was a nice day...Heard some good things about the swingy thing and even seen some homemade devices that help so for you youngsters that hunt all day surely worth a try....Again I can handle an Explorer for several hours but my legs go first so you youngsters should be able to get a good hunt in if you carefully set the bottom rod and hunt closer to your feet. Nice part of an Explorer you can adjust the armrest and bottom rod to fractions of an inch so set it up for your body makeup, height arm length and the like and just brush over the ground in a slow sweep as explorers hate air and a nice slow regulated swing gets you the deep goodies...Come on Spring.

Thanks for the complement although 67 doesn't seen very young but I agree with your wife & KEEP MOVING !! 84 here today...

It's a proven format and I really like the chest-mount. Unfortunately , it took a courages few to venture into this field of mods with the Explorer.

Chest-mount is the best. In my opinion, hip mount is impractical if you want to view the lcd.

Easier to see the lcd when it's on your chest.

The buttons are still generally still easy to use, though I think , the pinpoint needs to be mounted on the shaft.

That looks like a nice mod. I have chest mounted one other brand detector I had and it worked ok. For hunting parks and such it will work but when I do any heavy digging in the woods and fields I didn't like being tied down to the detector. Many times when doing so I needed to put down the detector so I can cut thru roots or dig a deep hole and so mounting the control on the body will hamper the process IMO....
Maybe having 2 Explorers would be idea for such situations.

Just joking really. Its a fantastic piece of engineering. I don't think most explorer users would even dare do what you have done to your explorer dave thats superb....
