Wood-fiber path produces a 1901 Barber Dime

Hi everyone,

I lucked-out again tonight at the local elementary school. The little wood-fiber walking path that produced the three indians, merc, and wheat last week treated me to another prize.

I was about ten minutes into a typical two hour hunt and got a "rough" high pitched tinkle in among all the iron squeals. The "rough" signal was scratchy and a bit intermittent, but I could get it to duplicate its roughness in two directions, so I decided to test my luck. The target signal was displaying a bunch of numbers, but I was able to see a 10-45 to 14-45 on probably 30 to 40 percent of the swings. After working through the 3" of wood fiber, I pulled a 3" plug and checked the hole with the X-1. The target signal was improving, so I knew I had a keeper. Another couple inches of plug revealed Miss Liberty looking at me from the bottom of the plugger...a happy sight to say the least!

The rest of the hunt only produced a couple of memorials-which seems to be the norm for me when I find a nice keeper right off the bat. That's ok though, a nice little Barber always makes for great day in my book (although it would have been even nicer if it had an "S" mint-mark ).

Thanks for looking and good luck on your next hunt!

That is a nice looking Barber, thanks for the picture and story. Congratulations on a nice find. -- Randy

That's exactly the type of signal that often produces great finds. Those consistent (though not real nice sounding) beeps. Thanks for the picture and great find too!

Very nice condition!

I tend to have the same luck as you Cladiator, If I bang a good one off the bat, it's usually a pretty slow evening.

Awesome find though,
Moose
