WOW
I have had my C$ for two weeks, but due to rain and having to work for a living, I have only been able to do air test and play in my test garden.
This morning the weather was nice and I decided to take the C$ to an old home site that sets by a creek near Wickenburg. I have taken other detectors there before, but never walked away with coins due to the heavy trash that surronds the old site. It is an old two room wood frame that is pretty much gone, holes in the roof, walls, and most of the floor has fell through.
I started with setting of 505, DISC @ 99, and FOIL and TABS notched out. After about an hour I had found 2 pennies, which was impressive because I had never pulled any coins out of this place, with any other detector. After about 2 and a half hours I started feeling real comfortable with the C$ and could tell the difference between targets, and there was a bunch of them. I noticed that good target id's stay about the same if you turned 90 degrees and sweep it from a different angle.
I decided that the only way I was going to pull any silver out of this place was to notch out FOIL, NICKEL, TABS, AND ZINC. The C$ was running so smooth that I cranked SENS up to 7, and started going over the area where the porch used to be and about 2' from the edge I heard a solid high note, I looked down at the C$ and it read 44, I turned 90 degrees and swept the target again, it read 44. I hit pinpoint and it read 50, the amazing thing was the first 2 inches was trash like you would not believe, after three inches I swept the target area again and it read 41 both ways. I dug another 2 inches and used my pinpointer to locate a 1887 silver dollar 5 inches deep in some of the worst trash that you can imagine, I could not believe it, I have went over this same area with other detectors and not a peep. One thing that I have noticed about the C$ is the super fast target id, I have read alot about the numbers jumping, but it is because there are alot of targets and sweeping from different angles will help you pin down the good stuff. Well thats it for now, I am going to set and play with my old addition to my coin collection. TB

<STRONG>WOW!!... that is what I call a good outing and with a new machine at that!
So give us some more details on the settings. Did you use the auto trac and how did it respond on those nasty rocks?
Congratulations on the silver dollar they are ceratinly scarce, I have only found one in 8 years.

Tom, I enjoyed your post. Seems the C$ is an amazing machine to see trough all the junk. Can't wait for warm, dry, weather so I can try mine. So far I've only used it in my backyard but I've been impressed with it each time. Congrats on your find and hope I can get my coil over such a fantastic find.

The C$ does take some time to understand what it is telling you, but it is worth the effort.

Hi Jackpine
I started out at SENS 5, DISC 99, THRES -5, VOLUME 5, DISC, NOTCH = FOIL OFF, NICKEL ON, TABS OFF, ZINC ON, I found a neat trick to use on the C$, after ground balance, I turned on auto trac until I hit a target then I would turn auto trac off and sweep the target again. Using this settings I found two 1970's pennies.
The site is so trashy that I thought I would notch out foil, nickel, tabs, and zinc, and just go for silver. The C$ ran real smooth, so I cranked up SENS to 7 using auto trac on and off, I should mention that this home site sets on the edge of a creek, and has high minerialization. The C$ handled the ground with no problem.
The C$ hit the 1887 dollar hard, with a high pitch and locked on with a solid 44 from all directions. After removing about 2 1/2" of soil, it locked on to 41 from all directions. The amazing thing was alot of rusty nails on top of the coin.
What I like about the C$ is the super fast id, if you hit a target, check the numbers, then turn 90 degrees and hit it again, and the numbers are way off it is junk. I also found that using all metal mode will tell you the size of the target.
I did try the id averaging function, but did not do well with it because there were to many targets in the ground, I think it would work great in areas where the targets are not overwhelming the target processing software. TB

Tom,
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the info expecially since it comes for someone that obviously has quite a bit of experience hunting in those conditions.
What other detectors do you/have you used?
Tom Z

Hi Tom Z
I have used the Tesoro LST, Whites MXT, Explorer XS, Whites IDX, Modified IDX, Whites IDX Pro, Modified IDX Pro, and I am learning the Fisher Coin Strike.
Right now I only have two detectors, the C$ and a modified IDX Pro that I had Mr. Bill install threshold adjustment, ground balance tuner, boost, and SAT switch modifications. The modified IDX series has allways been a great coin shooter in trash areas, with low to moderate minerialized soil. I wanted the C$ for areas with moderate to high minerialization, and I found out on yesterdays hunt that the C$ does excellent in hot soil.
I found a good way to adjust the C$ to current soil conditions, start with a slight threshold hum, increase SENS until it starts to become a little unstable, then back off by 1, adjust THRESH to -5. I know auto trac will do the same thing, but this is a way of finding the max setting that you can run SENS. TB
