WOOT! Looks like I'm finally gonna get to go home this Saturday!

We have been cutting over a new Node here at Vandenberg AFB in preparation for the shutting down of the old node up in Sunnyvale Ca. (Onizuka AFS). We have been "on hold" since yesterday waiting for a test launch here at VAFB.

It finally launched today around 3:30 PM. I did not hear it but I am GLAD it launched!
Now we can finally finish up this week on schedule and I can get the heck out of here after almost a month. I hate living out of a suitcase for that length of time. Especially when I only set to be here for two weeks. :ranting:

That is what was holding us up the first time. The GPS launch out of Florida a couple of weeks ago was delayed and if it delays then we have to delay our work along with it. Then this latest test launch today would have held us up if it would have been delayed as well. That is the nature of the business that I am in.

The DoD needs their satellites to protect the troops so we defer to that when it comes to missions that protect lives verses the work that we need to do. I don't mind the work as I know what I am doing supports the war fighter efforts. It is just the waiting around and doing nothing that drives me crazy.

..... as long as you're paid by the hour and not piece work, right?

Many times that is not the case.

...I have been working on these last two projects for around 3 years now. We just upgraded the entire Air Force Satellite Control Network's routers and switches last month. I designed, built and was part of the installation team that put in all the new routers at sites world wide. We had to deploy 14 teams to sites around the world to perform the network upgrade simultanaously. It was a logistical pain in the butt but we pulled it off. The installation was done over a 4 day period to include any network tweaking that needed to take place once the installation was completed.

And right after that I had to head out here to California to bring up this new node here in Vandenberg, AFB. The node in Sunnyvale, Ca. is part of a project called BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure). The Govt. is consolidating many bases and moving their opeartions to other sites. So that is why I am out here now. We will finish up the rerouting of the circuits from there to here this week. As a part of the new build out here at VAFB we installed the new router equipment here as well. It has been a long road and it is really cool to see my project baby come to life!
