I don't know how many buffalo make a herd, but I at least had a good start on one this morning with 3 buffalo nickels dug. At the time I recovered my 1st one, the 37, as I could see a date, I hadn't yet dug a coin and I was almost three hours into the hunt. I had dug some lead, a couple of which I knew were mini's, and some sort of jewelry item and a button, so I knew I had a couple of keepers to that point. I had just worked my way around a huge old tree when I got a lock on 29/30 reading and not very deep. That turned out to be the 1937. I started working my way around in a circle from the 1st dig and hit another lock on 29/30 reading and the 2nd buffalo came to light. About 2' away from that spot I got the 3rd buffalo. It has been a good many years since I have dug three buffalo nickels on the same hunt. If, ever. Un-fortunately our ground is not kind to nickels and the 37 is the only date for sure I can see. As it turned out, the button is an Eagle button and the jewelry piece I suspect was a hat pin. The post is to thick and the pin to heavy to have been and ear ring. That piece did give me a little start at first as I could see a touch of gold glint once rubbed. The small silver looking piece is a bird band with numbers and write Washington D C USA on it. I will, as I am curious as to its age and what the bird was. Had to have been a small bird as that band is small. 11" coil on the LTD in B P mode, disc 4, sen 90, 4h tones and g b of 65-69. HH jim tn
