Worst day yet

It rained here all day two days ago and then the temp dropped to 15 degrees for two straight days and nights. 32 degrees yesterday, went out to hunt. Ground was frozen to 4 inches deep, the freeze completely air entrenched the soil so I was lucky if my SE could get 4 or 5 inches in depth, I broke my favorite digging knife "Treasure Wise by Outdoor Outfitters" and I managed to find 18 cents of close to the surface pocket change that acid rain ate up nasty like. However, in my freezing my butt off, total waste of time, frustrated, disappointing adventure, I found that under the piles of leaves, they work like insulation and the ground is not frozen. And I have to add that if it wasn't for my Predator Tool's digging shovel slash bad neighborhood, no this here is my 1500 dollar metal detector' defensive weapon I would not have been able to get through the frost and would have not have found anything at all. Oh and when I popped out a frozen plug of soil and put it back, it was obvious and ugly, not a good thing, but if after putting the plug back I beat on it over and over with my shovel (flat side) it pounded down nice and you couldn't even tell I dug a hole. Cold weather SUCKS! I'm moving South.

Hi digitrich,

Sounds like you need a jack hammer, don't worry son summers not that far away.
All the best.....Boony
PS we are just comming into Summer here in the land of Oz.

I am also in the same boat as you. At least as the ground conditions go. We recieved rain up in ND last week and then the Temp. dropped to single digits at night and that just made the ground freeze up enough to make it miserable to even attempt to go out and dig somewhere. But winter has to start sometime and the sooner the better so that it hurries up and gets over with so we can get back out there and dig some nice old coins next year. Sorry to hear about your digger. You sure must have wanted to get out and dig to try and dig thru that Rock Solid ground. Well, at least you can start researching for more sites for next year like me and better luck next time with your digger. Good Luck and HH.

Problem is I'm a waterproofing contractor so I have 4 Bosch Brute jack hammers and about 5 large hammer drills with clay spades, now all I need is a really fricking long extension cord and one of them aircraft turbine engine looking heater thingies, winters never coming here, I'll not hear of it, If I have to hang a ground hog from a tree, you hear me jack frost I'll kick you upside your pointed eared little blue head. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO winter. No way! Yeah, that's better, I'm much better now, here kitty , here kitty, well maybe, after all not.

Come on down to north Florida digitrich:smoke: you can hunt all year long. Now it cold in the mornings, however, by noon you are shedding some insulation. However it gets hotter than hades in the summer.:drinking: Happy Hunting Grounds,

Savage.
