WOT vs. S.E.F. on the Explorer series machines? Opinions please?

The WOT is a hell of a coil but a bit to heavy for my liking ... I'd go for the S.E.F but that's coming from an OLD GUY :detecting:

Good Hunting
Mike

I pick up a used WOT last saturday and been out with it 3 times. I hunt for maybe 3 hours at a time and cannot say that it is TOO heavy for me. I like to swing it and it seems a very stable and sensitive coil. Sensitive for small items I mean. The coverage is just great as I usually use a minelab 8'' coil.
I use the XS and will definately keep the WOT.

Eric.

I got spoiled on the WOT the very first day I used it. I got the WOT to cover territory quickly rather than for its depth capability, which is formitable. I took it to a beach for its' trial run and within an hour I found a platinum ring worth more than 4 times what I paid for the WOT. On the beach the WOT is a jewelry magnet.

Looks like I sould keep the WOT then! Maybe I'm not sett'in my machine up right. I'll have to play around with it and see.

Thanks guys

I use the 14 in Excelorator on a beach and get fantastic depth and sensitivity. I also have the 10x12 SEF for coin hunting yards parks ext. I do not use the 14in on the trashy areas as it is too overwhelmed. However in an old site (historic or somthing similar) where not to much modern trash is I would use the 14 in. If it gets heavy I use my own version of a swingy thingy that helps hold the weight. (bad shoulder) The smaller sef I really like compared to the stock coil. Hope that helps. Oh, On the beach with the 14 in excellorator I shocked the pants off a DFX guy who could not believe how deep I was pulling out stuff, in that area it is easy to dig so any...ANY ANNYYYYY semi good signal I check by diging down 8 inches or so and check again,... that works realy good. Best of luck.

Well..........should I keep the WOT or try to trade it for a S.E.F.??? I bought the WOT new from DOC 3 years ago and it has less than 3 hours on it! I just don't know WOT to do here???

Thanks much guys!

Here is how I based my decision.
1. How big is your WOT? If you are just replaceing the same size with SEF then I believe you are wasting money as it works comparably and both are used for the same basic reason.
2. If you are getting a different size coil then get the SEF and add it to your collection.
3. It appears you dont use your WOT much already. Why not?. If you dont like it much the same size SEF will not make a hugh difference,
4. Do you hunt some type of specific type or area or varied.... that is the biggest reason to change a coil.
Once again thats what I asked myself. I ended up buying a 10x12 SEF that works much better in trashy areas than the stock coil as I am able to pinpoint better and it is very stable in trash. I already have the 14 in Wot so I could see no reason to get the 12x14SEF when I need to try a smaller coil in trash. Plus if/when I buy an Etrac the sef will work with that machine and then I will have the PRO Coil, SEF 10x12, and A 14in Wot. One for everybody! kidin...buy I like having different sizes for different areas I hunt. Good luck...

Here's an idea! Let me send you a Swingy Thingy, and there won't be a weight issue. Use it for 30 days, if you don't like it send it back. If you love it, send me $31.95 plus $6 for the shipping.

I bet all of a sudden you realize you can't do without the WOT or the ST.

Thanks!

Doc

I would sell them both and get the pro coil....separates....deep.....and LIGHT!!!!!!!!!
I used my new 10x12 sef yesterday...no way am I going to use it ....way to heavy!

I've got the 15" WOT,Minelab 8" ,Minelab 10", SunRay 12" that I can use on either my Explorer II or SE.
The Musketeer has the stock 8" and 10"
The Excalibur only has the stock 10"
As far as areas that I hunt, I go anywheres that I can get permission to go! Churches, old homes, parks, fields etc!!!

Thanks and HH Gilly in Illinois

For my Ex II and SE I have the 15" WOT, stock 8" and 10", SunRay 12" and a 6" concentric
The Musketeer has the stock 8" and 10"
The Excalibur has only the stock 10"
I just got a new Swingy Thingy from DOC so I think this will help tremendously no matter HOW BIG the coil!!!

Thanks guys

I actually had a customer come back and buy another Swingy Thingy for his dad. I said, "Oh, your dad detects too?" The customer said, "No, but he is always moaning about how heavy the weed whacker is, and I'm going to put the new one on the whacker for him." Just when you think you've made something pretty ingenious, someone comes up with a use for it that is even more ingenious than the original invention.

Doc

DOC,
I actually told the wife the same thing the day I got it! I says, this thing has got to work on my weed eater! Unbelievable huh?

Thanks much
