WOT weight balance

Gday :ausflag:

I picked up my new 15" MF DD WOT coil today
Over the weekend I made a counter-balance for the coil which works well.

I found a piece of tubing which fits very snuggly inside the back Xterra tube behind the elbow.
I sealed off one end with a copper plug and dropped some lead and rapid set mortar down the tubing and then sealed the other end also (round head bolt)
Then I found a rubber chair leg cap which fits over the tube
This tubing fits so neatly inside the Xterra that it will stay there on its own but for added security I taped some velcro to the Xterra and some to the counterbalance tubing

I guessed the weight about right and practise swinging in the garden it seems great
Easy to remove it again when required and pop the standard tube plug back onto the Xterra when using other coils

Nice job on your counter balance.

G'day, curious as I'm thinking of buying one, about how far it is out of balance as you have gone to some trouble to get it right for you. I take it that it's nose heavy or is it simply wearing on the arm from the extra weight? Regards, Aaron.

Hi Aaron

you got it mate
IMHO The xterra is so lightweight that the big coil makes it nose heavy
and it can be also wearing on the arm trying to correct the issue of keeping the nose up all the time

Nice job! I agree, it isn't a weight issue. Even with the large coil. It is simply a balance issue that is easily corrected with a counter-balance device such as yours. Again, nicely done! HH Randy

Looks like it will work great!! I'll try my Doc's Swingy Thingy first and see how it works............MO

Thanks Terra, good to know before I buy. Keen to get it mostly for beach work, seems like it will be great for that plenty of coverage and hopefully deadly on coins. Regards, Aaron.

She's a winner...both the new coil and the counter balance
But not being a muscly guy i did find myself swapping arms more than usual...the Docs swingy thing would go ok for long hunts
3 hours swinging today produced $41 odd

IMHO...The new coil is a bit chaterry and prone to EMI
but even with Sens at just 18 picked out $2 coins at 6 " so theres no need to go overboard in cranking up the Sens. too high
a stable coil is a good one to use
