Would appreciate Ace feedback....

I am trying to improve my ring finds in heavy trash areas and thus have included the "foil" icon in the Coins mode. Now I have found that the Ace rejects most of the common tabs with only the FIRST "tab" icon left blank and including the other-I call it "square tab" icon, since that is what usually registers here. As you probably know, that's where some rings reside. So if anyone has a collection of gold rings that have normally registered "tab", would appreciate if anyone would test these rings in the "Coins" mode with only the first "tab" icon blank and see if any worthwhile percentage of rings are now included. Thanks-searching for the best "rings" trash mode.

Hunt in Jewellery mode. If the icon on the metre hasn't bounced after 5 passes, then you haven't got a square pull tab under the coil. Uncle Willy talked about another method of figuring out these targets about a month ago. I can't quite remember all the details.

when i hunt for gold i tend to detect areas that are easy to dig like tot lots or sand. hunting for rings in grass areas with lots of junk is tiresome work start with the notch ether side of nickle that's were most gold hits.
using a sniper coil might help to get a better ID to.

I'll check out his posts-thanks. I try to search these areas, also. However I have a large list of areas that are loaded with coins and tabs. I wanted to increase my chances in these areas. If the test shows that at least half of the rings fall in the square tab icon, it would be worthwhile to try-which, BTW, I'm gonna do next time anyway. But if the test proves worthwhile, others may benefit from this post. Keep in touch with the results.

Most rings will hit in coin mode in my experience. Probably 75 to 80 percent. That is with my 2500. With the Ace to get that percentage you need to turn on the notch to the right of nickel. Force yourself to dig junk as often as possible. That is the only way I know to increase gold finds.

PS Finding gold requires a lot of luck and a good site.

Although most I've my gold ring finds have been in lawn (which is where I do most of my hunting) like Lazy said, tot lots and sand areas would be your highest probability of finding rings. John B finds them on playing fields as well. Home gardens is another likely spot to find them as well. The best guide to finding them, is to hunt places that have a reason for them to be lost ie swimming, having them knocked off the finger by activity, ie tot lots eta and so on.
Going after them in high trash areas without a reason for them not to being knocked off, can be character building.

You guys are very helpful-I appreciate the tips on the right locations. I have lots of areas that are loaded with tabs and don't have the character:clapping: to spend a full day sorting thru the trash. Now when school closes and I can go ANY day to search these areas, I will have all day. Did get about an hour today, and the first notch took care of all tabs encountered-but I was just testing an area that wasn't all that bad.

Good luck with the school hunts. A couple of the gold rings that I recovered were on school grounds. Both female wedding rings, one of which had to be 50 years old, due to it's design.

I dig alot of targets, I would hate to miss something, also depends how hot it is outside lol, I am almost fifty ha ha. Its interesting the things you dig up!

//Well, I'm digging junk and NOT digging rings!:crazy::shrug: Have some special areas and not much time per area. I imagine most of the rings would have fallen in the first notch anyway. It was worth the try to see if anyone had enough rings to try the test. Moving on.....

I did the test a while back with about 20 rings and 5 or 6 gold coins. I posted the results some time in the Winter of 2007, I think. You should be able to find the post. There are others who have done this too.

Keep at it.

Chris
