I'm hearing good reports on the 10X12" coil for my Silver umax, but I also know that gb is important and the Vaquero has rave reviews. Should I get the coil or the Vaq? I have been struggling for 3 months between the Tejon, the 10X12" coil, the Golden umax, or the Vaq. I want to go deep for a while and I don't like heavy machines at my age, and after getting my Compadre and being AMAZED with it, I know that I would do better with beep-dig. I'm thinking that it's a no-brainer-the Vaquero- after all the research- smoother signals, great depth, and the ability to super-tune like the Tejon. But you guys are great and I ask for your help. Thanks.

First off you can't super tune a Tejon..
..The second thing is,chances are you won't be able to run a Vaquero super tuned neither..
..The area you hunt and your ground conditions affect this..
..You did not elaborate on your style of hunting or what you are hunting for..
..Knowing this should help you decide on what is best for you or at least help you make a decision....Big coils are alot heavier and harder to swing so I personally don't recommend one unless your style or hunting location dictates the practical use of one..
..If you are just hunting parks etc. for coins then you might want to check out the Cibola as a choice too..
..If your soil is about average in mineralization then that would be my choice....I recommend it over the Vaquero unless you have the proper knowledge about setting up the ground balance properly or your soil varies alot and calls for a manual ground balance....Hey whatever machine or coil you decide on just stick with it and learn it..
..you will be rewarded I guarantee it....

I have a Vaquero and am very satisfied with its performance and I am still learning after a year and half of swinging. I stuck with the Vaquero through a dry spell for the same reasons that I chose it in the first place, because it is light weight, uses 1 small battery, brakes down in three pieces, lots of coil options, manual GB, AM mode, and its deep, and the excellent warranty if you ever need it. I have had an excellent spring with a couple of 150 year old coins and a gold ring. As I have written before the best accessory that I bought for the Vaquero was the Garrett Pro-pinpointer.

I've dug dimes past 10" with the stock coil and iron relics past 2', (not super tuned). That's about as deep as I want to dig. I have very mild soil here and its rare that I can get the Vaq to run smooth in the boost mode, so I wouldn't count on that for extra depth. Stock coil hits coins, both silver and clad at 6-8" regularly, the only time I've wished for a 10x12 is for more coverage at the beach. I will mention the great 5.75 con coil that's runs almost as deep(my opinion) as the stocker, great in trashy conditions and no spokes to hang up when hunting in brush.

Probably cheaper in the long run to get the 10x12 coil. If your not happy with it, there's always someone who will want it.
You won't find it too awkward to use as some may suggest, it works just fine on my Silver and Eldo.
Only thing separation between targets is not as good as stock coil, what may sound like one target under the coil maybe two or three
coins within 5" or so of each other in all metal mode. In disc mode you might hear the three better. But, with the Eldo I can switch back to all metal and separate them,
once I know. This happens with my stock coil when it all metal mode and there are two or three coins within 2-3" of each other.
The advantage the V has over the Silver is manual GB. I find that the 10x12 on my Silver chatters at max sensitivity or little below. From what I gather I may have to
go inside and adjust the GB pot to smoothen it out.
Next time I go out, will take the Silver for a spin, and see how the 10x12 works in the soccer and baseball field. I want to see if I can cherry pick those Canadian Loonies and Toonies, setting disc up to the point they are just accepted.........just haven't gotten around to trying to cherry pick. I want the dimes and quarters too, so I have been digging all targets above iron.
