Guess I should start off by saying hello to everyone. MD was something that I always thought would be interesting so the other day I really started checking into trying to find which brand style that sort of thing and of course getting husband involved and excited about it. In the middle of me doing my "MD homework" I seen this forum. I thought WOW I really like the fact of a Christian forum like this. I got husband excited about it and made my order. Checked the tracking and it should arrive tomorrow. We live in north central Louisiana. We are truly beginners wondering where to go first. I think it will be a wonderful hobby that we can both do together. Any advice or tips would be wonderful.

Hello Wendy and welcome to you and hubby, I am so glad to have another lady with us and I hope you post often! Also, you will find MD'ing either great or too hard work or boring, but most are dedocated detectorists on this forum and I used to MD most of the time, but poorer health keeps me from :detecting: and busy purchasing another home and trying to get mine ready to selll and sold! If you have any questions, there are many on here who would be glad to help you and give you answers.

We have some members living in Louisiana already and I'm sure when you get out and start hunting for coins and etc yourself, you will meet others out there hunting too ! As, I said, we are really happy to have you be a CMD Forum member with us! :) Hope you find lots of nice goodies!

God Bless!

MDing is fun and one never knows what the next 'find' will be. Being with Brothers and Sisters in Christ, sharing not only our finds but our love and faith in God is great. There is a Brother and Sister in Christ down in Louisiana - not sure which city. Mike from MI will probably know which city they are in. You'll find some good videos on detecting too in the YouTube. If you have any questions about detecting or other topics I am sure you will find plenty of information available here.

Blessings to you and yours and Welcome Wendy

Pete in MI

Detecting is a very fascinating hobby. We have one member near Monroe, La in far north La. And my wife & I go to Morgan City in southern La to visit the family. There sure is a lot to detect in your state. You can also rent detectors to try some models out before buying. Good luck, Steve in so az

Glad to have you both here with us. Feel free to pick our brains anytime. I always love to help where I can.
God bless.

Mike

This is the place to begin. I have learned a lot here and "met" a lot of great people here also. It seems as if we are a VERY large extended family here, each with their ups and downs, pulling together to make life more pleasant to all members of the Family.

At the top of this page is a list of forums pertaining to many different types of detectors and interests, some seemed to me a little risque for me when I checked them out, you can choose those that interest you.

BTW what type of detector did you decide on?

Mark

Thanks to all. We feel like part of the family already. Steve we are not too far from Monroe. We can pretty much get to any of the larger cities surrounding us in close to 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. It's nice to know someone on here is somewhat close to us can't wait to hear from them.

Mark I went with the White's Classic 5ID. I hope that I made an ok decision. We didn't want to go way out with alot of money until we knew for sure we would keep with it. Although I think we will. At the same time I didn't want to get something really cheap and get discouraged.

I am hoping that with surrounding lakes and rivers that maybe some of the picnic areas will be good hunt. Husband is from South Arkansas so there is family land there that we plan hunting. Right now we have one weekend a month that we can go together due to work schedules but there will always be a few hours during week after work for some local things. I really excited about UPS driving up tomorrow. My mom has already given me orders to search in my grandparents back yard where she lost a ring as a teenager. That would be great if I could find it for her.

Welcome to the forum. My wife and I are new to detecting this year also. I can tell you from first hand experience that this group of people are very helpful. We have learned alot from them, they are very generous with sharing information. A few great places to practice your skills are playgrounds and schoolyards. Steve in so az calls them tot lots. He has had lots of success in them and I have followed his lead having some luck of my own.

The biggest tip I can share is one I have heard from many an experienced detectist. "Dig every signal" Good luck and don't forget to post your finds, we like seeing and sharing the amazingly werid stuff people find in the ground.

Wendy - Always keep in mind that where ever people have been there treasure may be. Think about spots that are better than others to increase your odds. The tot lot play areas in parks & schools are great places to learn your skillls with a detector. And older houses are great - yards and sidewalk strips.
Keep us posted as to your finds & progress, steve in so az
