Ok. The only thing consistant near me is the "DIRT" meter. It runs at 3 bars pretty consistantly. This area is known for high iron content, so that makes sense. Also, the previous owner must have use my plan test site as his dumping ground for the bbq and or woodstove. I have dig up a few briquettes and some burnt wood pieces in that area.
So unless the ashes would thow a wrench in the works. It would be a fairly tough test area. I can live with that.
I have the F70 set at Disc@4, De, Sens@60, Thresh@-2, dp tones and notch@1. And it "burps&farts" some, but no worse than any other machine I've used.
Hey Shadow,
I also feel my ground is not really user friendly at 3 GRND bars on my F5 and an average GB of 82-85. My area is also known for having a high level of iron oxides in its native soil. Albeit not as bad as Mike Hillis's though, 4 bars on his F5, I can't even imagine! If I recall correctly my F70 runs around 2 bars. Not sure how that equates to the 3 bars on my backup F5?
Any way, I have found the F70 is potent enough, if you will, that I can run my Sens. as low as 50 and at times as low as 40 in our native soil and still get an
audio response, albeit sometimes iffy, on freshly buried targets the size of a clad dime between 5 and 6 inches. In dark loamy soil, and properly set up, it will give a audio indication in Discr. mode on a freshly buried clad dime at 8 inches. I'm not saying it will knock your socks off but it's there if you know what your doing.
FWIW, when hunting relatively shallow targets in trashy areas I will intentionally lower my sens. (as others do) to 40 or lower. In my case I use a non-DD concentric coil and have dramatically improve my good finds while doing so and using the tunes setting of 3H.
Also, I've been gaining more trust in the the F70 confidence bars especially on shallow targets. The reason for my extra confidence is my digging many targets with
dig me tones, along with good ID numbers and yet the confidence bar is indicating a low or no confidence in said target, and guess what? It was right way more often then not. The few exceptions where I beat the odds was when the desired target was in close proximity to a trash target.
