WS4 or WS5 headphones?

New member
Preferences for headphones on the Deus? The WS4 look to be lighter and more comfortable, but the WS5 seek to have a better control interface. What are the users primarily using?

I use ws4s ,,,with backphone setup,,and also use the module with Vance headphones.

If you opt for ws4s,,,you have more options available for aftermarket.

Ws5s to me tone not high enough-- makes working in iron tougher,,at least for me...

Vance headphones--- provide great tone.
Ws4 provide almost as good a tone as Vance headphones.

Grey ghost Deus modified provide crappy tone for me.

So now you have my opinion on what I have owned and ran.

I agree with Squirrel's assessment. I have owned the WS4, WS5, Vance Phone and Grayghost.

My personal favorite is the WS5's. I just liked the tones better on them. On a hot summer day the WS4's are a very good option.

I decided to go with the WS4's it was not a price choice because there is little difference in the price when your buying the detector (only a few dollars) I went with the WS4's as someone else mentioned because it gives you more future flexibility. The WS5's are a "one trick pony" whereas the WS4's allow you to go to a full headphone (Vance or Grey Ghost) at a later date if you choose. They both appear to be about the same price, and I can't comment on which is better because I have tried neither, but I will likely pick up one or the other later in the fall when its getting colder. My biggest concern with the WS4's was on the comments about them hurting the backs of your ears, so far I have not found that to be the case. I plan to pick up the module that allows plugging in regular headphones or ear buds along with a few other accessories over the next couple of weeks so I have that covered as well.

Just my 2 cents worth
Oh wait I am in Canada my 1.5 cents worth
All the Best

thats the reason I went with the ws5 I read the ws4 hurt your ears and im pleased with the ws5 ,probaly just personal preference.

I like the WS4 they are light and very versatile. They can hurt the ears from the plastic but a simple foam tape in that area fixes it if it bothers you. Never tried Vance or GG phones. Not a fan of bigger headsets.

The WS4 with the $20 adapter kit gives you the best of all worlds. You can get the Vance or GGs to plug the module onto or use whatever headphones/earbuds you want by mounting the module to the adapter and plugging in with the appropriate sized adapter. The adapter clip is 1/8" female. I use the backphones , both wired and wireless constantly , and have never found them to be uncomfortable , just inadequate in noisy or windy conditions where you need the full earcups.

The "Vance Muff's" headphones are hands down the best !

I like the WS4's because they allow background noise to be heard. If I am by myself in the middle of the woods or in the middle of the city, I like to be aware of what's around me.

Ive never had them fall off but ive had them slide around on my head but maybe I need to tighten them a little. they are comfortable I normally hunt 5 or 6 hours at a time and 3 or 4 times a week.

Excellent Posts. Thank you for the input...I lean towards the WS4 as I like a like weight headphone. I wasn't aware of the Vance or Grey Ghost options.
