Wow, I had no idea how active the used detector market was. Since joining these forums nearly 2 weeks ago I have spent 2+ every night and more last weekend scouring sites like these, Ebay and others. I have lost 2 auctions and am getting impatient:)

250.00 or less. I let a used F4 with 11" DD get away just yesterday for 239.99 from a dealer...sad.

Would entertain offers of F2's, F4's, CoinPros. I prefer a unit that has VDI and multitone. Since I am getting back into the hobby from 25 years ago, I admit there may be a detector I am not considering so your opinions of a unit beyond my short list would be welcome, however I think I have ruled out the Ace 250/350.

If you can help let me know. If I cant get a decent used Ill probably end up purchasing a new F2.

thanks much'

greg

What detector did you choose?

You will be back!
If you are like most others you will find some good stuff and then start wondering if another detector would work better, be easier to use, detect deeper, discriminate better, and so on. It is a great hobby and ofers endless possabilitys.
The only hobby I know that returns your money invested into the equipment.
In that respect a good detector dont cost you money ... it pays for itself ... if you just get out and use it.

Please keep us posted ... it is always intresting to read what others are finding and what they think about their detector.

Found a used F2 for 160.00 with the fisher pinpointer(which I understand from reading may not be extremely useful). Yea I wondered if buying detectors was an addiction...i see so many being sold/traded, I had no idea the amarket was so active..Ill keep you informed...though my next purchase will be the 11"DD...just now starting to study about coil choices. I figured 160.00 was a good price to wade backinto the hobby and test the waters to see if its something I enjoyed like I did in the 80's.

Greg, I would hold off on the larger coil until you get a few hours on the stock coil.
The F2 is a fine detector ... it has limited features ... but still a good detector made by a well know company.
I would use it in a local school yard or park for a few weeks so you can build up experience with it.
Then, if you do get a larger coil, go back to the same spots you searched with the stock coil and see what difference it makes.
Also you will get to know what features you like and what ones you really dont use much.
Personally, I like multi-tone audio and really dont go by the VID number so much.
This is especially true on a sandy beach where I recover everything above iron.
