Hello everyone, I am looking for a detector that will work well in a salty beach environment. I live in the Salt lake city area and have tried to detect out at the Great Salt Lake. I've been unable to find a detector that gives me the stability and depth needed to hunt that area. Is there a machine out there that tends to work better in a highly mineralized and salty environment?????

The Fisher CZ works well in salt, and are reasonably priced and simple to operate. The CZ6, CZ6a, CZ7, CZ70 are all water resistant as well.
Still under a $1000 you can find a Garrett SeaHunter II or maybe an Infinium or possibly a Whites PI such as the TDI.

I have a Headhunter PI unit that I will sell for the right price. I'll take 400.00 for it and split shipping costs with you to Utah. It's a great little unit, should not have any interference for Salt (I've used it in salt water for 2 or 3 years and have never had any trouble.) Let me know if you're interested.

If you hunt the beach only a land CZ or Sov...work the best in most conditions.
If you go in the water and submerge their water water units an Excalibur or CZ20-21......
 
I have an excalibur 1000 which works great at and in saltwater has both aa battery and nicad w charger asking $800 shipped
 
I guess I should've listed all the detectors I've already used at the salt lake. White's MXT, DFX and V3I, Minelab Sovereign XS-2, Safari and SE Pro. The Minelabs definitely worked better in those harsh conditions. The lake is far saltier than sea water, the Minelabs averaged 6-8 inches deep while the White's barely scratched the surface. I found the Sovereigns a bit heavy and just couldn't get used the tones of the Safari and SE Pro. I started out detecting with White's and I am most comfortable with them but they just don't work well at the salt lake. I keep reading articles about how deep the E-Trac goes??? but it looks a little complicated????? Price and ease of use is a major factor!!!!
 
The E Trac is both easy and complicated. Easy when using the presets with a few adjustments and you are good to go. Complicated only because of all the options and adjustments that can be made. The more you use it and become comfortable with it the easier the changes and adjustmens become. Just remember it is not waterproof so being careful is the key....With the stock coil I have hit quarters at 12-14" in the wet sand.
 
i use a cscope cs4pi at the beach, it's a pi unit. well made, light. easy to use and punches deep. control box is not waterproof (i only hunt low tide wet sand) i picked mine up used for $290 (like new) the only problem is you don't see too many of them as they are made in u.k. this unit was supposedly desinged by eric foster. if you can find one i highly recommend it .....hh.....jb
