Some finds from a WW11 army camp that was near my town.I've been detecting there since getting my XT70 a couple of years ago.This forum has helped me learn how best to use the detector and avoid some of the junk.The coins are 1942 halfpenny and 1917 penny,the item at the top has an elecrical winding inside,but have no idea what it is.The rising sun hat badge has to rate as my best find upto now . WW11 Australian Army Camp finds

Hi Sparkie,
Nice finds there, the gadget at the top looks like an old windscreen wiper motor. Don't forget that your local RSL, Historical society or museum may well be interested in some of your finds. I have an old WW11 Army and RAAF site nearby too and have turned up some interesting stuff but I get more of a kick out of seeing some of my finds on display at the local museum for all to see. That rising sun badge is in really good condition.
There is always a chance of digging up some unexploded munitions too, just to keep you wide awake and alert....

Thanks for your interrest guys.I'm in Perth WA,and mostly use the standard coil.A few gentle scrapes is my first approach to any prospective finds from that site,there are lots of 303 cases ,most of which i,ve traced by the case stamping to having been made at the Small arms ammunition factory no.4 in Hendon Australia in 1941.The pin used to fix the hat badge is broken off,so thats how it came to be lost.Some of the gear i donated to the local museum previously was identified as being WW1 issue.Apparantly as it was a training camp the troops were usually issued with some old stuff early on in their training. Cheers .
