x-1 going crazy?

traviswells

New member
Ok it seems that anytime there is just a little moister on the ground, my detector and mainly my x-1 goes nuts, I can't find anything in the early dew or at night dew. I can just move the probe in mid air or shake it a little like it would in the hole and it just goes crazy, what causes this and what do i need to do to adjust for moister.

Thanks Travis

I have this exact same problem. I've already had the coil portion of my X-1 replaced, but almost as soon as I received it back with the new coil I had the same issues. The theory was that some wires are fraying in the coil, so replacing it should fix the issue. It didn't and I'm going to have to send it back before the warranty runs out. Eventually the X-1 will do this all of the time, not just when it is humid out.

If you haven't had your X-1 for a year I'd bite the bullet and send it back. I waited too long past the warranty for mine because I love the functionality of the X-1 so much, I don't want to hunt without it.

They thing that buggers me is that the main coil does not do the same thing, only the X-1. So how can it be the switch box, the only difference is that the X-1 is hard wired to the switch box versus the coil connector for the main coil. I'm wondering if that hard wired connection is doing it?

More than likely though it's my coil and frayed wires again, I don't see how I can fray wires in under a year. I am very careful with the coil, expecially after I got my new one.

Hopefully someone will respond with some advice!

How long have you had your X-1?

i bought the whole unit xs and probe used, about 3months ago, but i really just think its something with the moisture. other than that it works great.

yeah, it doesn't make any sense, either the wire is frayed or it isn't, it seems unlikely that it is frayed only slightly and moisture in the air somehow affects that portion that is frayed. (especially if that frayed section is sealed somewhere near the coil or in the wire somewhere. It seem more probable that there is some issue with the hard wired connection and moisture getting into the switch box housing. There must be some difference between that connection, and the one you can screw a coil into.

All that being said, I'm not an electrician so who knows. All I know is I love my X-1 but when it is bugging out like this I can't pinpoint. I've also noticed my depth has been reduced a bit.

Hello traversals I had with my x-1 probe different problems too, I did surgery on switch box 10 times at least! I was suspecting switch-I found switch for replacement, I re soldered wires I change ware from detector to switch box... but still had strange interferences noises! lastly I solved it by connecting wire form explorer coil connection housing to x-1 switch box coil connection housing and problems gon! my suggestion when you have problem with moisture in the hunt take of x-1 probe and connect coil without X-1 if its will work ok ,,open X-1 box and check all wares! if wares ok and don't any ware touch each other check all the rest. inspect protective rubber nut on x-1 switch-it should be tide without any damage! any dirt or moister can damage or make in proper functioning switch. check check and check! good luck!
