X-terra 50 finds

I have'nt seen many posts about the x-terra 50 lately so I thought I'd post some recent finds I made with mine recently.
Last Sunday I found an 1892 0 Barber dime at an old house site that has been pounded hard, but is still giving up some finds.
Last Tuesday while hunting a new site, I found my first large cent dated 1839 and a 1943 mercury dime. See photos
These were all found with the stock coil on the detector.

What a nice looking Large Cent. The dime is nice too. But, I've been detecting for nearly 36 years and am still searching for a Large Cent! And my first gold coin, and first silver 3-cent piece, and first twenty cent piece, and .............Wow, sounds like I better get busy. Winter has arrived "big time" around here, and it looks like I will have 4 months to research places to hunt in 2008. But you know what? I just have that feeling....... HH Randy

Randy,
You give us so much great advice and yet this confession
of these coins you haven't found.
You have one problem with your detecting mate you have to sweep the coil
over the target. Good luck for 2008.
Over the years of not finding much gold my children always teased me
in their younger days. They bought me a plastic business card with
the following inscribed.
"He who finds gold is the boss, so keep digging dad"
Randy 30 years later that card is carried by me every day.

I like Digger am still in search of my first Large cent. We have hunted together since the beginning of our love for this exciting hobby. Gold rat is absolutely correct in his statement about not finding things unless you swing the coil over the target!!! I do honestly believe that Randy and I will in time cross the elusive LARGE CENT. Hopefully there will be two, one for each of us.

Hunted several years before I found my first one and now because I hunt in older places get several each year..Actually hit the 1700's twice in the last several years with a 1794 and 1797...unfortunately ground knocks the heck out of them and some come out of the ground looking like a slug...As long as I can find a date I am happy....

Congrat's on finding the barber and your FIRST LC. Boy, it sure is a thrill when you find your first one.
I found my first and only LC about a yr. ago and I think the whole town heard me when I found it.

I also use the X-terra 50, for almost 2 yrs now.

this part of the Country wasn't settled until the mid 1850's. My family actually arrived in the fall of 1854. And I have asked myself many MANY times, "why would my gr gr grandparents bring those large copper coins back here? There were no banks. There were no stores. There was literally no where to spend them." I have to think I would have probably spent most of my money on supplies before heading this way. And if I had any money left over, I'd have tried to turn them into silver. 3-cent pieces, half dimes, dimes, quarters etc. But, I have to think there is at least one of them, waiting out there for me to dig. And I appreciate your encouragement! HH Randy
