X-Terra 50 Verses MXT

Does Anyone know how the X=Terra Compares to the MXT for jewelry and Relic Hunting. I live in NC. I have been looking at both and they seem to be very nice starter units. Just wanting to get into the hobby and any advise i will appreciate.

Hi,

I am one of the bigger X-Terra 50 fans there is, but I'm an even bigger MXT fan. At this time the MXT is the safer bet as it has been very well proven to be an excellent all-around unit for various detecting tasks. In particular, the very large number of accessory coils available from White's, Jimmy Sierra, Detech, and Sunray combine to add to the versatility of the MXT. An MXT with a small coil is going to have an edge over the X-Terra in heavy trash, and an MXT with a Bigfoot or 18" Excelerator coil is going to have a huge edge for ground coverage. The automatic ground balance and DD coils will excel in bad ground conditions.

That said for many uses I will be grabbing my X-Terra 50 instead of my MXT. It is a more pleasant, quieter operating machine for most in-town detecting and many people would prefer an X-Terra to the MXT. They are very different machines in style and operation, with both very strong at what the other lacks. They make one heck of a complimentary pair, and so owning both is what works best for me!

I strongly advise you try and get your hands on and use both at least a little bit before deciding.

You just can't go wrong with either choice as Steve has already mentioned. They make great companions. When the smaller coils become available for the X-Terra series I'm sure good results will follow on the forums. I imagine Minelab will continue to keep adding more and more options and the X-Terra line will be here to stay for quite a while to come. I had a MXT get totally destroyed in a accident last week and I HAD to replace it, just didn't seem right not having one around and I would do the same if it was the X-Terra.
Just my opinion of course :)
