Both Modes have All Metal(AM). You of course mean when you hunt in Prospecting(P) Mode and hit a target, then switch over to Coin & Treasure(C & T) Mode in All Metal(AM) to check the TID number.
I would think no gold nuggets should come up in the -8, -6, -4, and -2 (or +48 hotrocks) range, but Barnacle Bill said "it may read in the iron range". Depending on surface area, gold has a wide variety of positive TID numbers. Of course smaller gold nuggets have much lower numbers. The best thing to do is get different sizes of nuggets and check the TID numbers on them. Get a small inexpensive pocket scale that weighs down to 1/10(0.10) gram, I got one at a pawn shop called My Weigh and also a Tanita. Small nuggets are not expensive to buy, like 1 grain size or 1/10(0.10) gram, 0.5 gram, 1 gram, 2 gram, etc. for test pieces. But a detectors TID number goes on surface area instead of weight, so you could easily flatten out a very tiny nugget with a hammer on an anvil to give it more surface area to save money then measure it, for a testing piece. You can hot-glue-gun them near the end of (wood or plastic)paint stir sticks or on poker chips to wave in front of the coil or on the ground.
Also for testing pieces hot-glue-gun some pieces of trash near the end of paint stir sticks like a very thin-tiny iron nail, a bigger iron nail or other small piece of iron, an empty .22 brass shell, very small piece of lead(.22 bullet or fishing weight), aluminum pull tab, a fascia-soffit aluminum nail, aluminum screw cap, a beer bottle cap(can show up as a good TID but has jumping numbers and a distinctive audio to reject it), etc.
You can also remove(slide out) the lower shaft and coil and turn it 90 degrees(perpendicular) to the upper shaft, to the left side, on a non-metallic wood or plastic test bench(or table) and sit down and test away. This makes it easier to wave the paint stir sticks with your left hand in front of(or on top of) the coil while adjusting buttons with your right hand, looking at the TID numbers in C & T Mode, and listening to tones(multi tone-99 tones IMO is what I like, others may like 2 tones). Also in Prospecting Mode you can test bench different sized 'iron' objects experimenting with Iron Mask(IM) from 1 to 20(max), seeing when you lose(blank out) various sizes of iron pieces and gold nuggets, at what IM number.
There you have it, a test bench. Compared to this bench-air test, if the target-object is burried in the goldfields mineralized ground it may alter the TID numbers and sounds-tones a little bit, is also something to take note of.
