X-TERRA 705 Gold Pack

I am thinking about get a 705 gold pack. I plane to use it in knee deep water and wondering what is the best way to waterproof the coil

I don't think that would be a very sturdy coil for underwater sweeping even if you do WP it....ears are thin.
You would lose 4".........the 6"hf dd is waterproof, and solid!

Personally, I would mask off the ears where the lower shaft attaches, and then spray the whole thing with "Flex Seal

So I need to just get a stock 705 and get the 6"hf dd and not get the gold pack.

The stock coil has the same weak ears, so that would ot be a solution. And in reality, the gold pack coil costs more to buy than a stock 9" MF, making the gold pack a better deal for the same money.

I don't recall or remember seeing as much of an issue with the ears on the 9" MF coil than the 5x10HF.And i have had their 9" MF for 7 years with no issues and lots of abuse,..also different ear design....The 9" MF stock is a good coil to have. It was my only coil for 5 years on the X30 and it did me well.,I chose the gold pack because i had the stock coil from the X30....I have both HF coils for the type of areas and finds i expect for my type of hunting i do.....GL

Coil ear breakage is an issue that has come up before.

I thought the 5x10 coil can be sumbmeriged? I have seen it on the prospecting channel the guy was using it in bout a foot and a half of water..

According to Minelab the 5x10" is only water resistant. To be considered "waterproof" it must be submersible to 1 meter for an extended period. Coils that are "water resistant" can be hosed off, used in wet grass, and even take the occasional wave splash w/o issue, but anything much more than that isn't recommended and wouldn't be covered under warranty.

O i see.. That is good to know cause i just bought me a x-terra 70 with 2 coils, and should be here wensday and can't wait to use it and post some finds gold prospecting. That is really all i plan to use it for.

I have been using my 6" DD in water several times.Works great!
I dont think I want a bigger coil under water due to the heaviness of swing :)
