x-Terra 705

I bought the 705 to look for gold in Ca. in July but never made it so now I'm using it for coins. I found a few but the problem is I having pull tabs read 40 when they are in the ground and 18 when I air test it. I also have a question about the pinpoint mode. When I put it on a target that would read 44 or 46 and I put it on pinpoint it reads a neg (-6) number. What does this mean? this is my first detector are these common problems or should I be worried? Thx Patmaan

Don't worry about the air test. You're not going to be hunting coins in the air. Learn what the numbers and sounds are telling you in the ground. The patterns, sounds, and numbers will become familiar to you when you dig enough targets. When you find somehting desirable and you can remember the sounds and numbers of that item. The next time you hear and see that combo you will know it will probably be the same thing again. A good hot 40-44 in my area is usually a quarter. But, It can be apiece of aluminum siding or a crushed soda can. If in doubt, I will pick my coil up 6-7 inches, I the signal is still hot, more than likelly you've got junk. A.so, if something registers shallow on the depth gauge and my pinpointer picks it up on the surface and you don't find somehting within 2 inches , it will probably be not be a coin.
I notice my numbers will fuctuate to some low numbers in pinpoint mode. I don't worry about that , just go with the original numbers.

I never pay any attention to pinpoint numbers they are almost always wrong for me.

Download Digger's E-book, top of this forum, and read it about 4 times (I am a little slower than most). When I first got mine I actually printed the book and took it with me on a couple of "hunt and learn" trips. I would go back and forth comparing what I was doing and finding with what the book was telling me. THAT was and still is a huge help. THANKS AGAIN DIGGER!

My pinpoint numbers jump around also but it seems to me anyway that if it is a good solid coin TID number that in pinpoint mode it will at least come close to the original TID number. If it doesn't even come close it is usually junk.

Mine hardly ever comes close. And I usually know if it is a coin or not.

You're welcome. Glad to know it has been helpful to you. HH Randy
