XL500 headset repair Help

New member
I finally made it to the beach yesterday after about a 1 1/2 years off (not by choice)::sad:
Any way, I am only getting sound from one ear cup and occasionally the other. I have a suspicion the problem is in the ear cup where the wire connects to the speaker?. I called Garrett and they offered to replace the whole detector for a new sea hunter II, as they don't stock parts for this model headset. With the loss my job, I can't raise the funds for a new detector. Bottom line is I have more time then money so I hope I can get some great ideas on repairing this myself.

Try wiggling the headphone connector where it plugs into the detector case while the headphones are on your head, if the sound seems to shift from ear to ear it is probably a dirty connection or a loose solder joint in the connector or detector unit. Try some contact cleaner on the plug or take it apart and look for loose wires. Just my clad cents worth.
