XP Deus and E-Trac on 8" wheat

Southwind

Well-known member
Here is a video done on an 8" wheat from last night with both the XP Deus and the E-Trac.

Thanks - hard to tell just from the video, but the signal appeared pretty equal???

What was the ground like as far as (iron) mineralization goes?

The ground is pretty iron infested. It is a 128 year old park that has had lots of building built and torn down over the years.

Personally, I felt the E-Trac had a slightly stronger signal, but if I turned up the Sensitivity on the Deus about factory setting it get very strong. Of course were have a 9" coil compared to a 11" coil.

So dont go to fast over the target or both will miss them....

I am using the stock Basic 1 program and no adjusting. I believe the best way to get familiar with a detector is to use it straight out of the box with little to no adjustments. I have turned up the Sensitivity on a couple of targets just to see what difference it made, and it made a big difference in how solid a iffy target became. You do got to really listen close for those deep ones. I've got so used to detectors amplifying/modulation? deep target to be loud, I had forgot how soft a deep target can be.

That was a pretty decent sig for basic1.... And a very good way to get familiar with your uni... You'll start hearing the deeper ones a little better, with more time. Thanks for the vid!

Hey south wind love the stang also! What you got in that baby a 351 Cleavland? Man that is a sweet muscle car!

What you got in that baby a 351 Cleavland?

It is a Q code. Ya, 351 Cobra Jet, last of the big ones. It has forged pistons, solid camshaft, roller rockers, balanced, aluminum high-rise, Edelbrock 750 carb, huge headers, 3" pipes with Flowmasters. Pushing between 400 to 450 horse.

Hi Southwind. I understand that you want to "learn" about the Deus in stock mode before you start adjusting the programs.

Basic 1 mode utilizes a discrimination setting of 10.0. This is way too high and you will not be using this level in your normal detecting other than for specific cherry picking situations where depth is not a factor, i.e. someone lost a gold ring recently and you are searching for it in a defined area with trash - you would bring your discrimination up to, possibly, a 70.0. So why learn the machine and grow accustomed to it's nuances set up in a manner that you will quickly change out of. If you review the manual you'll see that the stock settings for like 6 of the main 9 programs vary just slightly. The manufacturer knew we would be making our own programs - that's why they made it so easy to accomplish that...

That being said, many tests have revealed that the level of discrimination used will have a direct correlation to both signal response and depth. I venture to say that had you been using a discrimination under 3.0 the Deus performance to your 8" wheat would have been quite different from what I heard when I watched the video. And set-up correctly, using a minimum of 3 tones, the Deus can run with a discrimination setting of zero yielding maximum depth. The iron will just come through as a low tone.

The beauty of the Deus is the ability to program it quickly in many different configurations.
