XT70 erratic readings on quarter

I was wondering why my XT70 was such a hard machine to use...I think mine is broken.

A US quarter reads 42 on my machine but after doing ground balancing I found that the same quarter reads as low as 6-8. Tried changing batteries and also tried different coils and the readings are the same. After awhile when I turn the machine on the quarter is now consistently read at 6-8. Is there a setting that I need to know or is it time to send it to the factory for servicing?

Before you send it back fill it with fresh alkaline batteries, reset all you factory defaults and check the coil connector. If you have another coil, try it. If unsuccessful then a trip to the service center seems in order.

I agree set back to factory defaults. That may just do it, Beale.

If it's still erratic, try turning the sensitivity down to around 15.

Thanks guys looks like its malfunctioning. Did the factory presets, discrimination and mode presets and it read the same. Tried again with fresh alkalines and switching coils won't fix the numbers. It seem something is lose inside the control box as a slight shake of the box does move the numbers of the quarter up back to 42.
Will have to send it back. thanks.

I had the same problem. Restarted the detector and went to factory default. Fixed my problem.....Jack
