Xterra 50 for relic and beach hunting

How well does the 50 do as a relic/beach detector ? And what are the best coils and frequency for the job ? Any Info would be helpful . Thanks Bert

The X-50 is a good "all around" detector. It will hunt relics with the best of them. And it will do OK on the beach. Just remember on the beach you should hunt parallel to the waterline. And hunt the dry sand and wet sand separately. The reason being is that the X-50 does not offer tracking mode or beach tracking. You will need to set the GB differently for wet (compared to dry) sand. As to coils, the stock coil you have will do well for both. A higher 18.75 coil might be better for small gold targets at the beach. And a DD coil will neutralize the effects of mineralization better than the stock concentric. Depending on how much time you will spend at the beach, and what your GB levels are, could justify whether or not you need to buy another coil. If you do, remember the concentric 9-inch coils are waterproof, as are the two 6-inch coils. The larger DD coils and the elliptical DD are considered to be water resistant. Folks who use them around water will sometimes seal the coil cover lip with a bead of silicon. As well, putting a dab on the connector where the cable enters the coil is a good idea as well. Like I've said before, all the coil frequencies will find silver, copper and gold. Lower frequencies will hit larger objects at deeper depths. But higher frequencies are better at smaller targets and lower conductive targets. And, as with all detectors, a DD coil will separate targets better than concentrics. If you take a look at the FAQFAQ section at the top of these posts, you will find a couple posts that compare and describe the various coils. HH Randy
