xterra 705.....resurrected

After many years of enforced absence from detecting, I am now able to rejoin the ranks of the detecting fraternity.
Put new batteries in my xterra 705 , which has only been used twice since purchasing, and thought what do I do now.
At 85 memory not as good as it was.
Question....I have two coils .....DD 10.5" Round 7.5 Khz Which came with the machine.
DD 6" Round 18.75 Khz purchased later.....never used.
I like to detect on farmland and on the beach, which would be best coil to use for each occasion
and what difference does the various Khz make?
that will do for starters and thanks in anticipation of some answers.
PS with my initials being HH , I might get lucky with finds.

It's a great hobby.and I certainly hope I, myself, can be out detecting at 85..:clapping:

You would do best with the 7.5 on the beach & farm, mostly because It can cover more ground and will still hit on everything from lead, copper & silver coins and gold/silver rings. The 18.75 is good for trashy areas and hits small gold best, but will still find you copper and silver, I use it at the beach when I'm working small areas with lots of caps and tabs, but mostly to get between cabana lounges that have a small gap between them.
Lower kHz is best for copper, silver coins and lead
Higher khz is best for small gold

Hi Bob,
Many thanks for your prompt reply........most helpful !!!
Now to start me off on the right path ........what start up procedure would you recommend and what setting to start with for farm and would it be the same for beach, I remember about activating the ground balance for beach setting ,(umbrella icon)
Once I've got the hang of things again, I can make the minor adjustments to setting afterwards.

Just starting out again. I would use tracking on and pattern one for farm land.

thanks for that link.......I had forgotten I already have Randy's e book .........dug it out..... its all coming back now ......
