I started out with the old Garrett detectors, and when they wouldn't do as advertised , I switched to Minelab, waaaayyy back in time. and I stayed with them, had many of their detectors,, But I think they haven't done right by touting the XT 705 as a prospecting tool. I've tried it in WASH. state and North. CA.and couldn't do anything for the hot rocks. I had the old 16000 , and it could null ll them out. Anyway, I just had to say it, I don't think they've done right by the buyers this time.. I know I'll get a lot of flack about this, but it goes with the territory.............and every one is entitled to an opinion............
(just kidding) I think from reading this thread that more education is the factor here. My X 70 and 705 pick up # 7.5 and 9 bird shot that is scattered all over my woods. I really didn't realize what all the chatter and noise was in a lot of my yard until I just looked and looked and started finding remnants of my dove killing escapades. A small .177 caliber pellet really sets the detector to singing. I'm sure that would be the reaction of gold to the machine also. I've had mine for 7 months now and everyday is a learning experience with it. Just enjoy what you have and learn learn learn from the FAQ FAQ here. Good luck and HH.
Another X-Terra 70 user here and, though I haven't had the opportunity to hunt for gold nuggets, I do enjoy metal detecting with this unit and wouldn't trade it for anything else. Oh...I've had the top of the line Garret's and their good machines but heavy compared to the X-Terra's. I find that each time I go out hunting, the ground I'm detecting becomes a classroom and I'm all ears! I relish the opportunity to really get to know this machine better and, the more I hunt with it, the more I like it. If I were to upgrade, it would likely be to the X-Terra 705. Thank you Minelab for fantastic machines!

and garrett are too.
